A newbie at the MAD Blog Awards 2014

A few months ago blogging wasn’t even on my radar. I had never heard of anyone and didn’t know anything of this world. My days were repetitive and I had lost myself somewhere along the line.

In May ‘What Katy Said’ became my new little baby and now it is a massive part of my life! I wish I had started years ago as becoming part of the blogging world has made me feel ‘me’ again. Last week I got the chance to go along to the MAD Blog Awards 2014- little old me!

I decided to drive into London as late night tubes frighten me! Besides driving through the Royal Palace Gardens with a police escort I think I did rather well!! HA!

I arrived early and suddenly became very nervous- I didn’t know anyone! I mean, I know people on Twitter, I know their Twitter handles but not many go by their real names and the thumbnails are far too small to be able to recognise anyone!!

The first question anyone ever asks is ‘What’s your blog?’. Honestly I just want to hide when people ask as I am so new I know nobody will have heard of me. Sure enough a couple looked blank but some people did know me from Twitter or amazingly still- had read my blog! Such a weird feeling having a stranger ‘know’ you.

As more people arrived I looked around to see if I recognised anyone. Honestly nobody looks like they do in photos! I have since looked back at pictures and realised I actually saw people I ‘know’ and didn’t say hello! Sorry about that!

I don’t know what I was expecting numbers wise but it was very intimate, a bit like a wedding. I felt even more privileged to have a ticket knowing that I was one of a hundred or so.

Many of you will know Dr Ranj from Cbeebies presented the awards. What a nut! I don’t know if he was a bit tipsy, nervous or generally a bit mad but he certainly was entertaining! The ladies love him! He is a good sport and at one point he got a bit fondled on stage- think he loved it really!

My table won 2 awards- Team Honk for the outstanding contribution award and Little Button Diaries for best craft blog. Gourmet mum and Along came Cherry were also nominees at our table and all very deserving. I hadn’t heard of their blogs beforehand (shame on me!) but they are great so go take a look if you haven’t already.

The awards themselves left me feeling very overwhelmed. There are so many amazing bloggers out there! I don’t know that I will ever be inspiring or the best in my field but all of the wonderful mums and dads I met have definitely inspired me to carry on with my blog and who knows, maybe one day that could be me!

A massive thank you to Sally for my ticket! I had a great evening, a far cry from my normal Friday evening! Thank you to Parentdish and all of the other sponsors – I do love a goodie bag and there were some very cool things in there (although we are now loom band crazy after successfully avoiding them up until now- thanks for that 🙂 )

I am so sorry we didn't get a chance to say hello to each other, I would have loved to have met you. I am so glad you had such a great time and I see you were sitting with the girls from the Little Button diaries. I hope that next time we are at an event together that we get to say hi. Thank you for linking to PoCoLo :) x

Sounds like it was a great night. Handy having a smaller audience as there's more chance of getting to know people better. #pocolo

Hello,

I to am a newbie, although blog is over a year old now, and I would have been too shy to attend the awards. I've been to one blogger event, a Mothercare store opening, and was so shy I took my mum along as support!!

It's great to see amazing bloggers in real life and yes they are inspiring.
