I’ve said before that the thing that seemed to trigger my desire for a third child was seeing a new mum pushing along her newborn in a pram – I tell you, hormones are funny things! If I’d not seen her that day then perhaps Wills would not be snoozing at the side of me right now! Crazy huh? So, when I found out that I was expecting a baby I was very excited at the prospect of having my own pram to push around.
I never had a pram with the girls and so this made the idea even more exciting – I’d finally get to fulfil my dream! Being a Britax Mumbassador means I get to test out the latest products and luckily for me they were bringing out the very beautiful AFFINTY 2, just in time for his arrival!
Unlike with the girls where I kept their pushchairs out of sight until they were born (bit superstitious you see), I was far too excited and had it sitting in my hallway for weeks. My midwife kept stroking it every time she came to check on me – she adored it just as much as I did I think. I was so excited for his arrival, in part just so I could finally put him in the pram!
He is now a month old and I have used it every day since the day he was born and I am still absolutely in love with it. We have it in the Lagoon Green, the first coloured pushchair I have owned as I have always played it safe and gone for black. I am so glad I went for a pop of colour though as I have received so many compliments and colour just brings you joy doesn’t it?
There are so many reasons why I love Britax as a brand but one of the main reasons is their attention to detail. Two great features of the AFFINITY 2 carrycot are the mesh netting under the hood and the safety strap in the cot. The netting was a godsend in the heat – allowing extra breeze into the cot to keep baby cool – just a simple idea but one that can make all the difference on a boiling hot day. My favourite thing though is the strap and I have had so many people comment on how brilliant it is. I’ve always wondered how you keep a baby secure in a pram and Britax have obviously wondered the same as they have incorporated a padded strap to wrap around baby’s waist. Brilliant idea! (Check out my video at the end of the post to see both of these in action!)
The handle is adjustable, another thing that can make all the difference when you are tall like me. I have been huddled over pushchairs in the past as they are built for average height and at 5′ 9″ I struggle. All of the mechanisms are easy to manoeuvre too, with either the press of two buttons or a slide of a lever – in particular, I like the brake as it is nice and big. The opening mechanism is pretty much one handed too, perfect when you have 3 kids to contend with, I can tell you!
Now obviously we are still using the carrycot but Lils helped me to test out the seat. It is big enough for her at almost 3 years old and comes with the fab one-handed lie back mechanism – again, they think of everything and make life easy for you as a parent. The seat doesn’t come in the colour option but instead you get a colour pack and attach the seat pad, hood and basket mat yourself. I found the hood a little tricky to clip in but once in you don’t have to do it again.
The only thing that I have noticed is that the basket is quite small, I think this is to reduce the fold-up size. The thing is though, I have been spoiled with the size of the basket on the Britax SMILE, so it is hard to judge whether this is average or not.
All in all, I really love the AFFINITY 2 and am always pleased as punch to be pushing such a gorgeous pram around (and my baby in it of course! 🙂 )
I’ve made a little vlog so you can get a better look at the pram, apologies for the sound quality- possibly the windiest day ever for filming!! If you have any questions do pop them in the comments below. 🙂
