Little Tikes TOBI Robot Smartwatch Review

Inside: review of the TOBI Robot smartwatch from Little Tikes. Feat. press samples.

My children love gadgets. Anything that promises to wow them with sounds, lights and awesome technology and they are all over it. My youngest often misses out on the cool stuff as he is too little to really use anything properly. So when we were asked to review the new TOBI robot smart watch I knew he’d love it!

Little Tikes have created the TOBI robot smartwatch for kids aged 4-8 as well as accompanying robot friends, Beeper and Chatter. The watch can be used to tell the time, as a pedometer, to play games, as a camera, and much more! At £49.99 it is a great entry level smartwatch for little ones.

TOBI Robot Smartwatch

The watch comes as a little unit and can be placed inside a watch strap or onto a clothing clip to be worn on a belt or waistband etc… You can choose between pink and blue at the point of purchase but as yet there are no replacement straps should you need to switch.

The watch comes with a little charge so we got to work exploring straight away.

The main difference to other smart watches is the fact that TOBI is very reactive to movement – exactly like a robot. Their little face changes according to how they are ‘treated’, so if you shake them up they will get dizzy and see stars. Gentle taps will make them smile and so on.

TOBI also has little arms and legs that pop out when they get excited – really fun for little ones. You can also feed them – very much like how we would have had tamagotchis as kids (I loved mine!).

What can the TOBI smartwatch do?

Of course, you can tell the time. With 50 different screens you can choose one to suit your taste and use either analogue or digital as your preferred display. You can also use it as a stopwatch, a timer, an alarm clock, to set reminders and see today’s date with a calendar.

You can also use it as a pedometer, which is a great way to get kids actively aware of the amount of movement they get in a day. I know from my older kids that they love to see if they can beat their previous day’s step count and will move more and more as a result.

There are quite a few games to play, including tic tac toe and also some fitness activities to encourage movement. I love that the dance game gets you moving as it senses whether you are following along by how your body moves.

The watch also has 2 cameras – a selfie one and a point of view one. It says it has space for 3000 photos which is great as my kids seem to take about 100 at a time! It can also shoot video and store up to 30 minutes of footage.

All in all, a really great watch for little ones to make them feel like they are grown up with all the apps and features while encouraging them get active and have fun.

Beeper and Chatter

As part of the range, you can get two little robots; Beeper and Chatter. These are really cute and can interact with each other and your TOBI smartwatch.

Tapping them on the head will wake them up and if they are within range of the watch or other robot friend then they will start to beep as if they are talking. They will happily chat away for a while before they go back to sleep.

While they are super cute, they don’t do anything besides chat away so they aren’t something that would work well as a standalone product if you don’t have the watch or both robots in my opinion. But as a set, they are sweet and my kids loved getting them to chat to each other and interact with the watch.

Both the TOBI Robot Smartwatch and Beeper and Chatter are available from all good toy stores or from www.littletikes.co.uk/tobi directly.

We were sent the smartwatch and the robots as part of this review. All words and thoughts are my own.
