To my beautiful Baby L,
As I sit here writing this letter my eyes are filled with tears. Tomorrow is your birthday and I don’t know where the time has gone. This time last year I was waiting for you to arrive- you were 8 days late and I desperately wanted to meet you. To see the little face I had tried to picture for all of those months.
This year has been hard, you have struggled with so many different things and I have had to fight your corner. You are worth fighting for my beautiful girl, I couldn’t bear to see you hurting, I just wanted to see you happy.
You are happy now, the happiest baby I have ever met, constantly smiling. People comment on your smile when they meet you, it is enchanting. This is my favourite photo of you, despite your snotty nose (which seems to follow you always) your smiley eyes and your cherry lips make me smile. We have it up on our wall so I can see it always.
You are such a character! You are a cheeky monkey there is no doubt about that! Your favourite trick is to run away from me when you know you are doing something you shouldn’t- especially if you notice the stair gate open, you scurry up the stairs quick as lightening and laugh all the way to the top! Another of your favourite tricks is to empty out drawers- the number of times I have caught you emptying out your sisters clothes is ridiculous! You laugh and I cannot be cross, you never make me cross.
When you were first born I worried whether my heart could love another baby. I needn’t have worried as I love you just as much as your sister. Actually, you being born made me love you both more. They say your heart grows with each baby and it is true, to see how you play with each other now makes my heart swell.
Your first smiles were for your sister, as were your first giggles. You love her more than anything and you look to her whenever you do something new. As I write this you are parading around the living room in a scarf you have managed to put on yourself. You are so pleased with yourself! It belongs to Little G and when she saw you wearing it she said you could keep it. She loves you to the moon and back.
You do not talk yet but I know if you could you would tell us you love us too. You tell us in your own way though, the way you cuddle and kiss, the way your face lights up when you see us every morning. We know.
Happy birthday my little rainbow baby, you have brought me so much joy this year. Here is to the next one!
Love Mummy
