The Lake District | Long Weekend Family Break - What Katy Said

The Lake District | Long Weekend Family Break

I have wanted to visit The Lake District for the longest time, it is just one of those places you feel you have to go to in your own country, don’t you think? I can now tick it off my list as Mr F took us all away for a long Easter weekend as a belated birthday treat for me. I knew he’d booked it but didn’t know where we would be staying – but he picked a goodun’ for sure!

We stayed in a gorgeous lodge on a farm called Blenkett Wood. It isn’t specifically a holiday park, with some people living there year-round but we booked through and it was perfect for us.

Our favourite thing about it was the fact that it had its own jacuzzi…. yep a jacuuuuuuzzi. Amazing!

My goal in life is to own my own jacuzzi haha!!

We arrived at the lodge Friday afternoon so spent most of the time in the jacuzzi before snuggling in front of a log burner. We didn’t fancy cooking so did venture out into Allithwaite to the local pub. If you are ever in the area then I cannot recommend The Pheasant Inn highly enough – what a lovely friendly pub! We were made to feel so welcome and honestly I don’t think I have ever eaten such delicious chips in my entire life (and I have eaten a lot of chips!).

Our first full day brought us sunshine, which was very unexpected after the forecast said rain all weekend. We decided to head to Brockhole as they had an Easter egg hunt laid on for the kids. Anything that will get the girls motivated to be outdoors on a cold day is a win for us!

It was, to be fair, pretty freezing so we didn’t spend too much time outdoors before heading to find lunch. I can imagine it would be lovely in the height of summer though!

We then headed into Barrow on Windermere and took a little boat trip up and down Lake Windermere itself. We could have sat up on the main deck but decided to stay toasty inside.

Sunday was a nice lazy day, scoffing on Easter goodies and having another dip in the jacuzzi. We had seen Beatrix Potter World the day before and so decided to go along seeing as it was a rainy day. The girls love the stories and so it was really magical for them to be able to wander around an interactive museum.

The whole weekend was so relaxing and brought us all closer as a family – as holidays always seem to do. The best thing for me was the fact I had little to no internet, meaning I had to switch off completely. We played games, cuddled lots and just spent the whole time laughing – just such a lovely holiday.

I didn’t take many photos as I filmed lots instead. You can have a little lodge tour as well as see what we got up to in Blackpool as a stop-off before we arrived at The Lakes…

Have you been to The Lake District before?

We LOVE the Lakes. A walk around Buttermere Lake has to be one of the nicest walks we’ve ever been on as a family. Total beauty x
