A daughter’s wedding day is one of the most significant days for you and your family. It’s an incredibly special time, and one that you might never experience again. So, it might be worth spending time thinking about what you’re going to wear.
Whether you’re the bride’s mother or soon-to-be mother-in-law, you also need to keep the bride’s preferences in mind, making sure not to add more tasks onto her already busy schedule. Here are just a few pointers that will help you choose the most perfect Mother of the Bride outfit.
It’s a really important day
As already mentioned, this is a really big day for you and your family. Not only are you seeing your daughter pledge her lifetime to her partner, it marks a new era in her and your family’s life.
Considering its significance, you want to feel comfortable and confident. But before starting the search, ask if there is anything to help with before the big day. From helping the bride find her own outfit, getting her engagement ring polished for the big day and sorting out things at the venue, there are some really big things you might want to get sorted first before thinking about your outfit.
Consult the bride
Most brides have a very clear vision of what they want their day to look like and you don’t want to choose anything that may look out of place. If you’re really unsure about doing it alone, why not organise a mother-daughter shopping day and have some fun whilst you’re at it? At the end you can treat her to a few cocktails to help with the wedding day nerves.
If, however, you do have to do it alone, make sure to send the bride plenty of pictures before purchasing anything. This is her day and she will know what is appropriate.
Comfort is key
As Mother of the Bride, you are playing a big role in the day and are naturally expected to wear something glamorous (without upstaging the bride, of course). And whilst it may be tempting to go for a statement piece, remember that it is going to be a long day and you want to be able to enjoy it without fiddling with your outfit throughout.
When you try on a dress in the shop, try walking or even dancing around in it. In terms of the rest of the outfit, your shoes will also dictate how comfortable you feel. Avoid really high heels and opt for something lower and elegant so your feet can last the whole day.
You might also want a jacket if it gets cold, so make sure to choose one that matches the colour and cut of your dress.
