First and foremost, your vision for your home will be necessarily constrained by the budget you have available. Times are hard for the vast majority of households in the UK at the moment, so it may well be the case that you have a little less to spare than usual – which is no problem at all, as there are innumerable low-budget ways to achieve dream results for your festive home.
Of course, you might have a little more money available this Christmas, for whatever reason. in which case, it becomes all the more important that you set a spending limit, in order to ensure your money gets spent in the right place. The last thing you want is to get too carried away, and accidentally eat into the presents fund!
Colour Scheme
With the boring stuff out of the way, you can start to brainstorm possible base ideas on which to build your festive home décor. You should start with colour, as it is a simple entry point and can greatly help in narrowing down your options.
There are some classic Christmas colours you can go with, in the form of green, red and white. If these are a little too garish for your tastes, you could settle into a more regal affair with silvers, golds and purples. Blue is also a big colour for the Christmas season, and you can start easily from the floor up with a blue rug, paired with white decals on the walls. Gold is always a good choice, whether as a central tone or simply an accent; your Christmas tree lights mirror its warmth, and you can set your outdoor Christmas tree lights to reflect that same warmth.
Patterns
Next, you can bring life to your palette with a choice selection of patterns. The patterns you choose can have a real impact on the atmosphere in your home, whether the comforting patterns of tartan and plaid blankets or the beautiful, symmetrical fractals of paper snowflakes.
Minimal or Maximal?
Lastly, a passing thought to take with you as you start to realise your Christmas theme: are you a minimalist or a maximalist? There are benefits to each approach; minimal decoration can give your home a refined feel, while maximal decoration can make your home feel cosy and close.
