You probably attest to the fact that the kitchen is hands down the busiest room in your home. Especially if you have family members around, you probably spend a lot of your time in the kitchen. If that is your case, then as much as it may take some effort to keep your kitchen organized and clutter-free, the benefits will be worth your while.

An organized kitchen creates more space in your kitchen, increases your productivity, makes you more efficient, and provides a safer environment for you and your loved ones.

Here are a few easy steps to organizing your kitchen:

Organize one section at a time

As tempting as it may be, try not to organize your kitchen all at once after a prolonged period of putting it off. First, complete one section before moving on to another area. It is easier to have a mental or written organization list of where you want to begin arranging. For example, you could choose to start with cleaning out your refrigerator, then your cupboards, then the floor, and so on. This way, it will be easier to keep track of your progress and help you be more thorough.

Sort through your space

Before you embark on cleaning your kitchen, sort through all items kept in your kitchen cabinetry, drawers, and shelves. The best way to sort through your kitchen is to take out everything, then put back only what you need and use and dispose of or recycle the rest.

Keep all your kitchen essentials easily accessible

Another simple trick to organizing your kitchen is to keep items you frequently use in the front and center of your cabinet. Place items such as paper towels, spices, and sponges in convenient and accessible locations around your kitchen. Doing so will simplify your kitchen, make it easier for you to work, and add to the charm of your kitchen.

Set up kitchen shelves

Shelves in the kitchen are an ingenious way of adding a room to your kitchen. Kitchen shelves allow you to store your favorite items that you may have no room for inside your cabinets, drawers, or countertops. Kitchen shelves enlarge your space, allowing you to put more on display without making your kitchen feel cramped.

Install pull-out cabinet drawers

Pull-out drawers add to the organization of your kitchen. Items in would-be hard-to-reach corners of your kitchen will become more accessible and easier to find. I particularly favor pull-out kitchen drawers that open out, making it possible for me to reach everything in the shortest amount of time possible.

Store similar items together

Ensure that you designate each drawer and cabinet for specific or similar items. For instance, have a cabinet for pots and pans, a pull-out drawer for your silverware, and shelf space for your spices. Storing similar items together makes it easier to remember where your items are and quicker to find.

Keep out non-cooking items.

It’s an open secret that kitchens are multifunctional hubs of activity. The kitchen island, for instance, can be used by the kids for doing homework, or by the adults, for playing a game of poker. That probably makes for some good family time and wonderful memories. However, once these non-cooking activities are over and done, they should store these items out of the kitchen.
