Inside: How to create stickers using Canva and a Cricut Joy
If you love Cricut and want to know how to use your machine to create stickers for your planner, your organiser or even to sell on Etsy to create extra income, this is the guide for you.
Cricut machines are able to cut on sticker paper to create your very own planner stickers. By using Canva to create your designs you can create a template, print them out and then cut using your Cricut machine. With a handy workaround, even the Cricut Joy can be used to cut when using your own printer.
This guide is for those with a Cricut Joy but the design process is the same whichever machine you own – you just won’t need to create a sizing template if you have one of the larger machines.
Creating a template in Canva
If you haven’t already created a sizing template, head over to this post to find out how.

Using your 4×6 outline template, create a light grey coloured background. This will help your stickers to stand out when it comes to transferring them to the Cricut Design Space. Or if you are printing from Canva first (if you own a Joy so cannot print from Design Studio direct) then create a WHITE background to avoid wasting ink.
NOTE: At this stage you want to make sure you know the measurements you need for your needs. If you are making stickers for a planner then you’ll need to measure the space that you need to fill so your stickers are the correct size when printed.

Now it is time to search for any graphics that you might like to use as a sticker. I like plants so I like to make plant stickers for my journal.

Resize the sticker to suit your needs and then carry on choosing graphics.
You can also use the various elements available in Canva to create ‘useful’ stickers such as tick lists or days of the week stickers.

Use the various shapes to create what you need. I will show you how to make fun tick lists.

Take the shape and resize it to meet the needs of your planner. You can stretch lengthways and then squeeze widthways to make it long and thin. Change the colours – I have changed mine to match the plant pot next to it.

Find a shape for the tick box – I have chosen a heart. Click on it to bring it into the document.

Drag the shape to be the right size for the space and then copy and paste it until you have enough. Change the colour to white or whatever colour you’d prefer.
Keep going until you have the stickers you need and then download as a PNG file. Upload that into your Cricut Design Space. Remember to remove the background from within the Design Space application – the fact that your background is grey will mean that the software can differentiate between the colours.
Remove unwanted elements effortlessly with Canva’s quick remove background feature to give your stickers a professional touch.

Hi!
I'm not a busy mum. However, I hope it is OK that a dad with grown children who live away from home and lives across the pond on the west coast accesses your site!
I am a Canva user and go between the free and paid plans depending on my needs. I own a Circut Joy and am always looking for ways to "extend" its capabilities.
I thank you for the time you spend creating content for our consumption!

Hi there! Of course! Obviously I write 'for mums' because that is my personal experience. But if others can get something useful from my content then that is brilliant! Have a great day!
