Having Friends In Devon…

Almost exactly four years ago to the day I stood on my doorstep, tears in my eyes, waving off my best friend. She had come to visit me, as she had done many a time before but this time was different- this time was goodbye.

This time four years ago I was reaching the end of my pregnancy, I had started maternity leave and all of my friends were starting back at work, ready to start another school year. My best friend was not only going back to work but was moving 234 miles away to Devon- that is a 4 hour journey!

We had worked together day in day out for 2 years, sharing a classroom as reception teachers. Those were fun days I can tell you, working with your best friend is amazing. Now I wasn’t going back to work and I wasn’t going to be seeing her every day, I was heartbroken.

She was my bridesmaid five years ago and I am so pleased to be able to return the favour this October, I will be leading the way, along with both of my girls, down the aisle and I am so excited. The dresses are ready and mine fits (phew!!) so all there is to do now is wait!

This weekend we travelled the 234 miles to see her and her fiancé and had the best time. I am so thankful that we are still close, despite the miles that separate us. Whenever we see each other it is like no time has passed at all and we chat for hours and hours! We are lucky that our other halves get on too, so we can leave them to it while we have a good old natter!

The only sunny day was Friday so we went to the beach, if you are ever down that way the Babbacombe is well worth a visit- simply stunning! Here are a few photos from the afternoon..

I hate being so far away and I miss her being around. We joke about us moving down there, who knows maybe we will actually do it one day! But for now, we have our memories and go down as often as we can, having friends in Devon is always going to be a good thing!

This is really horrible that your best friend have moved so far away. I understand how you feel perfectly as my sister, who is truly my best friend in life, have moved away from London to Dublin which is even in another country! I was feeling lost because she is away but she went there to be with the man she loves. Now we are going to visit her from time to time... but it is not the same! I wish that you and your dear friend will stay in strong relationship no matter the distance. And who knows... may be moving to Devon will happen to be a great idea! Thank you for sharing! All the best!

We're currently contemplating a move from Hertfordshire to Plymouth. Very exciting but pretty scary!

Same sort of distance for us, it is just hard because all of our family are here and taking their grandchildren away seems unfair. x

Aw this is lovely, I know just how you feel too as my best friend is in Sussex and we see each other once a year. It is crazy how it feels so normal and nice seeing them, you know its a good friend! Devon is so lovely and where we want to end up some day when we can afford it a little more! I bet your friend loved reading this xx
