Gro-Light Night Light #Review

Those of you with young children will understand the need for a night light. Whether it be for the child themselves or just as a gentle light within their bedroom to help should you need to check on them during the night.

I have been a huge fan of Gro products for a number of years now, especially their Gro Clock which I recommend to everyone I know! It has taught my 3 year old that she can only get out of bed when it is ‘sunshine’ and it doubles as a nightlight- fantastic!

Neither of my girls like the dark, that is not to say they are afraid as such but they get anxious if they wake and their room is pitch black. Having a gentle glow in the room alleviates that worry, showing them that they are still safely in the room they fell asleep in.

When I was asked to review the Gro light  I was very excited to see what it was all about. I had not heard of it before and thought it may be another type of plug-in night light. It is so much better than I expected!! It actually fits into your ceiling light or a lamp! How amazing is that?

I am not very good at even the simplest of diy tasks but I was able to fit it just like a normal bayonet light fitting and then attach the lightbulb into the bottom. It is basically an added piece between where the bulb and fitting would normally join. At first I was worried we would have to buy a traditional light bulb but thankfully it works well with an energy efficient bulb- we have them throughout our house!

So, here is the clever bit- to use it as a night light you turn it on using your light switch. Simple! It uses LED lights and so are efficient and more eco-friendly than leaving a landing light on for your child (as my parents used to do!)

Now the really clever bit is that you can override the night light to use the light as normal! To do this you have to flick the switch twice. At first I wondered why you wouldn’t make the main light the default but when you think about it, it is much easier to click on-off-on during the day but at night you would want to quietly click once to go check on your child.

The night light has a little dial on the side so you can adjust the brightness, I set ours right down low as it is actually quite bright but if you were going to use it for night feeds you would want to set if brighter.

I love this product and will carry on using it until both are happier sleeping in darkness. The only downside for us as a family is that Baby L’s room has a dimmer switch and so is not compatible with the device. However, I would rather put in a normal switch (adding that to the list of jobs to do!) and use the device than use a dimmer which actually has always annoyed me!
