Choosing The Right Table For Your Family - What Katy Said

Do You Sit Down Together At Mealtimes?

When we were looking to move house I knew I wanted to have room for a dining table. I grew up in a family that did not make time to sit together at mealtimes and as a result I never really felt as though we spent time together on a day to day basis. I knew I wanted to be different, I wanted to create memories of happy family times around a table.

We sit down and eat together every single day of the week and technology is completely banned – meal time is family time. We ask about each other’s days and the girls join in too (albeit a nod and a giggle from LJ).

One of the main reasons I wanted a table was for Christmas times. I have always wanted to host Christmas and have a huge family around the table laughing a joking. I absolutely cannot wait for my girls to be older, have children of their own and have them all smiling around the table as they tuck in to a meal I have made. I have hosted Christmas for the last couple of years and I have really loved it! Some people find it all a bit stressful but I really enjoy all of the preparations and seeing people tuck into their dinner!

Our table is my favourite piece of furniture in the whole house, it cost an absolute fortune but it is a beautiful hunk of wood and to me is totally worth it. It extends out to seat up to 10 people which was something really important to me when I was looking to buy a dining set.

Quercus Living have produced this handy infographic to help people choose the table to suit them. They have also included some great tips for decorating your table for Christmas which I really love! I am definitely going to make more of the decorations on the table this year.
