I was very lucky to be invited along to Blogfest this year by Aveeno Baby. We have loved Aveeno for years, with my mum using it for her severe eczema and me for my awful skin during the winter months. Gracie has always suffered with mild eczema too so I have always used it when she has a flare up. The fact that they are bringing out a baby range is very exciting as it means I can use it on Will’s sensitive skin too. I will be writing more about our experience with the new range soon so keep an eye out for that!
Wills and I travelled into London on Friday afternoon and had a lovely hotel room all to ourselves! It was so nice to spend a little time just the two of us – although he slept for the most part so I was able to catch up with some work and read my book. We were invited out to dinner with some other bloggers too which was lovely and meant I didn’t feel too shy the next day walking into the event.
Saturday had a bit of a dramatic start as I had set a Tuesday alarm instead of a Saturday alarm!! Cue me waking up 20 minutes before my meeting with Aveeno! I am not sure how I managed it but I made it in time and listened to a really interesting talk about the science behind Aveeno. I am a bit of a science geek so I found it fascinating!
With a fab goodie bag in hand it was then time to make the dash to Blogfest. I hadn’t really planned my sessions as I wanted to go with the flow on the day. I missed the first session but otherwise managed to get to some fab talks and as much as I don’t feel like I learned anything, I definitely do feel motivated to try a couple of new things.
The first session I went to was Digital Photography for Bloggers by Emily Quinton – who is absolutely lovely. Her photos are gorgeous and she has built up her brand simply by having a love of photography and sharing her photos on Instagram. She shared tips for improving your own photos and what I really liked was that most of the tips related to your camera phone – just proving that you don’t need an expensive camera to create gorgeous photos. The best tip for me was to make sure you hold your phone either vertically or horizontally when taking a photo – NEVER hold it at an angle to the subject as it distorts the photo.
The next session was my favourite of the day as it was all about YouTube. I am absolutely loving making videos for my channel and I came away from the talk feeling as though I really can make a go of it! The take-home advice was to make sure that you create engaging thumbnails for your videos, make playlists to organise your content and be consistent. I just need to find the time to have an overhaul of my channel to get it up to scratch!!
I spent lunchtime wandering around the brand stands and of course went along to check out the Aveeno Baby stand. They had a giant cot and mobile set up so I couldn’t resist taking a few photos of Wills.
He was such a good baby all day!
Next was the Fireside chat with Louise Pentland (Sprinkle Of Glitter) and Emma Conway (Brummy Mummy of 2). I adore both of these ladies so having them combined was so lovely! Louise was so down to earth despite being a YouTube superstar and I grabbed her for a chat and a photo afterwards.
Her advice to me was to join in with the YouTube community – something I struggle with at the moment as watching a video takes longer than reading a blog post. Definitely want to make the effort though as I want to build up my brand.
Davina McCall was the keynote speaker and my goodness, what a lovely lovely lady she is. I have always loved her from way back when on Big Brother and she always makes me cry on Long Lost Families. Well, in real life she is even better and had me holding back tears when she spoke about her life and losing her sister. She was truly inspirational and I want her book for Christmas!!
Me and the gorgeous Aby (You Baby Me Mummy)
The day was rounded off with a drinks reception and a last catch up with anyone I had missed throughout the day. It didn’t seem too busy through the day but I still seemed to miss loads of people. Problem is, half the time I am too shy to go up to people anyway so sorry if I didn’t get to speak to you!
A big thank you to Aveeno Baby for inviting me, I had a fab day!
