  1. Assess Your Space

The first step is to work out where you’re going to put your relaxation nook. Some great areas you can consider are:

  • A quiet corner away from high traffic areas like in an attic or a spare room
  • Near a window for natural light to filter in through the day.
  • An unused corner of a living room or bedroom if the room is large enough.

If you have a nook near a window, work out what time of the day the sunlight will be coming through the window. If it’s in the morning but you need more light in the afternoon, you can also opt for soft artificial lighting like string lights or floor lamps to help create a warm atmosphere.

  1. Comfortable Seating

You can’t have a relaxing space without comfortable seating. Bean bags, arm chairs, recliners and lounge chairs make great additions to any nook. When choosing your seating option some things to think of are:

  • The style of the chair and whether it’ll compliment your current decor. Some types of armchairs or recliners like Kasala recliners offer vintage, retro, modern or eclectic styles which can easily match with certain decor, and there are many choices of colors to choose from as well. This is also true if you go for the bean bag approach.
  • Comfort is another thing you need to look for. Comfort is the pillar of relaxation, without it you can’t fully enjoy your space. It’s a good idea to look for armchairs and other seating which offers ergonomic support and cushioning. Things like recliners or oversized armchairs are great options for nooks.
  • Fabric type is also important. Leather may not be as comfortable as a cotton blend cover. Soft fabrics are often better because they don’t irritate the skin and you don’t become stuck to the lounge after using it for a long period of time, especially on hot days.

When it comes to positioning your seating, some things to consider are:

  • Position it to have a view of the window or a piece of art hanging on the wall.
  • Position it in a place which offers enough space surrounding it so you can easily move without feeling closed in.
  • Accessorize your seating with blankets, throw rugs or pillow and a small side table to put your tea, books or candles on.
  1. Add a Personal Touch

Finally to make your nook your own add your own personal touch. Adding artwork such as paintings, photos or other modern decor to help bring a sense of calm. Incorporating plants will allow for more air quality along with bringing a piece of outdoors indoors.

Set up a bookshelf to keep your favorite reading material. The look of a mini library can also bring a sense of calm and quietness to a room. Add soft lighting for nighttime relaxation with the use of lamps. Use essential oil diffusers, scented candles and other incense to create a lovely and inviting smell. Set up soft background music without lyrics to help remove distractions from your surroundings and to create white noise. .

Creating a relaxing nook inside your home doesn’t have to be difficult. By taking the time to choose the right seating option, lighting and also adding your personal touches, you’ll be able to create a safe and calming space you can use at the end of a long stressful day.
