Inside: Our recent experience at the Butlin’s Minehead resort this August 2017.
Do you know what my favourite movie is?
It starts with a young girl arriving at a holiday resort with her family. There are lots of family activities happening on the green and they have evening entertainment in the main hall every day.
A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to be invited down to Minehead to the Butlin’s resort there. I have only ever been on a Butlin’s holiday as a young child and so didn’t know what to expect.
I had visions of cheesy Red Coats trying to get us all having ‘family fun’ and in a way, it was a little like that.
Except it was so much more.
We arrived on the Monday lunchtime, ready for a 4-night stay in one of their new Lakeside Chalets. We weren’t allowed into the accommodation until 3 pm, so we went for an explore around the resort.
There is plenty to do, with a fairground at the front of the resort and of course the Pavillion, which has a big stage with acts happening throughout the day. At this point we just wandered around trying to take it all in, the girls had tattoos and braids put in their hair and we had a bite to eat in one of the cafes in the Pavillion.
At 3 pm we rushed around to see where we would be staying and it was worth the wait. Our Lakeside Chalet was fantastic! It was fresh, clean and very spacious with a view of the lakes of course. Wills was straight onto the balcony to say hello to the ducks!
Once we’d unpacked, we headed on down to The Deck to have dinner. We had Premium Dining passes, which gave us unlimited dining in The Deck and The Yacht Club.
The Deck serves food from around the world and The Yacht Club serves typically British food but you are able to take your food through from one to the other if you all have different tastes.
After dinner, it was time for the evening entertainment. Having no experience of Butlin’s we didn’t know what to expect, but we all had such a fantastic evening. We decided to go to Reds for the first night, for their Butlin’s Rising Star show. The talent was incredible!
Like I said, there is so much to do that 5 days just doesn’t seem long enough! We managed to cram in a visit to the Circus – possibly the best circus I have ever been to and well worth the extra cost.
Pretty much everything else is included within the holiday, with the pool and of course the fairground. But there are plenty of added extras should you want them.
Most of our days were fairly chilled, with us all looking forward to the evening entertainment. On the Tuesday and the Thursday we were in Centre Stage which has a completely different feel to Reds. Reds is cosy, with a smell of smoke machines and of course a red glow. Centre Stage is cool and open, like a mini area. This is where we went for Diversity and Steven Mulhern’s performances.
Both shows were amazing and worth the wait to get in. Which brings us to the best thing for us – our B-Line passes. For an added cost you can get wristbands which let you into Reds and Centre Stage 15 minutes before everyone else and get the best seats.
When you see the length of the queues you will thank your lucky stars for your passes! You can get them for the whole length of your stay or for a couple of days – maybe just so you can get in for the one show you are dying to see!
Everything about Butlin’s focuses around families and it is the thing that makes it brilliant. Time with family, for me, is precious. There are plenty of holidays you can go on that will give you time to relax, time for spa days and ‘me time’ but if you are looking for a holiday that brings you together with your family then Butlin’s is what you need.
“Our true intent is all for your delight”
From the moment you arrive at the resort, with a warm welcome at the gate, to the moment you pop your keys into the little post box as you leave – you feel like you are part of something bigger than just a holiday.
You are part of an experience.
Here is the first of a series of vlogs I made of our week, so you can get a better feel for our holiday…
When I watch my favourite movie, I love how the staff put on a show at the end and the whole crowd gets up and dances as though they are part of a big family. That is the feeling I got at Butlin’s, it is the reason I wasn’t quite ready to leave and the reason I want to go back again.
Now if my own Patrick Swayze could teach me to dance that would be the icing on the cake!
We were invited along for the week but all thoughts and words are my own.
