Baby Development – 8 month update

I am so behind with these baby development updates!! Baby L is almost 9 months and I am only just finding time to write this one!! Time is flying and before I know it she will be 1!

She has come so far this month, she doesn’t resemble a baby anymore, she is more like a mini toddler. If you want to take a look back at last month you can see what she was doing at 7 months old. Here are the main areas of development:

Feeding

She is doing so well with eating. Her reflux is very almost gone and she can eat most things without it causing a problem. She has developed her pincer grip so is now able to pick up tiny objects like raisins and sweetcorn. Her favourite has to be strawberries, she puts them in whole (much to my horror!!) She has finally dropped her 10pm bottle, we were giving it and it was actually just disturbing her sleep. She does still love her bottle though and her face lights up when you say you are off to make it.

Crawling/ walking

So not long after discovering crawling Baby L decided walking would be more exciting. She is a pro at crawling but as soon as she reaches a sofa or table leg she pulls herself up and walks around the furniture. I thought Little G was early at 9 months but L thought 8 months would be fun! She really enjoys walking along holding hands, you can see she knows she is being clever.

Sleeping

Hmm, this is not my favourite subject. We have had a total regression a few weeks ago. She refused to sleep and screamed until she was literally sick. I have had her in bed with me, culminating in her deciding sleeping ON me is the best place = no sleep for me!! I have managed to get her napping ok in the day as of yesterday but night times are still tricky. I am not against controlled crying but she gets so worked up that I don’t even think there is any point. She has a real separation anxiety problem going on. Bless.

Talking

We have had our first word!! You can guess what it was… yep, ‘dada’. Of course Mr F is proper chuffed with himself. I am now saying mamamamama over and over in the hopes she will join in!

Other things to note:

• She is now reacting to the word ‘no’. That little bottom lip quivers and makes me feel bad.
• She clapped at the beginning of the month, lasted a week or so and has now forgotten what to do.
• She now makes a grabbing motion when she wants something. Not to dissimilar to the ‘milk’ action used for baby signing if you know it
