I am a bit late with this one, my final monthly update of Baby L’s development. I will continue to do them but every 6 months now until she is 2 when I will do them each year on her birthday.
I cannot believe this is her 12 month update! It doesn’t seem a minute since I started all those months ago! She is quite the little toddler now, no longer a baby really. Well, I say that but she is still quite baby-like, much younger than G was at this age.
Anyway, how has she changed this month?
Feeding
Wow does this girl love her food or what?? We have only found 1 thing she doesn’t like- soy sauce. I made a stir fry and she took one bite and spat it out! Other than that she gobbles up everything you place in front of her! I think if she was able to eat all day she really would!
He absolute favourite thing to eat are strawberries, she gets so excited when she sees me getting them ready for her. By ready I mean chop the leafy bit off- she almost swallows them whole!!!!
She is trying her best to use a spoon now but is really quite useless. I have no idea when G mastered it but I thought I would offer it to her at meal times and see how she gets on. Mostly she likes to bang it on the table or throw it on the floor 🙂
Her milk ladder journey has stalled at the second rung at the moment, she is teething and so I don’t want to confuse allergy symptoms with teething symptoms. We will carry on as soon as I feel she is ready. She is doing well so far which I am thrilled about!
Walking
She is getting to be quite agile now and never crawls anymore. She can actually run if she puts her mind to it- generally when I have caught her doing something she shouldn’t and she runs off to hide!
She has the cutest shoes now from Bobux which are really comfy and great for those early steps! She really loves shoes and often tries to put her sister’s on when they are lying about in the hallway.
Sleeping
I feel so lucky to have had a good sleeper. I know how hard it is to survive on little sleep, having been through that with G as a baby. Thankfully L is great and only ever wakes when she is poorly. We are still battling the dummy though and she will always wake around 11pm when it has fallen out. I cannot bring myself to take it away from her yet though, she loves it too much. They are only babies for a short time, she can keep it for now.
Other than that she is now sleeping under a duvet rather than in a sleeping bag- she loves it! Sometimes she does get uncovered and cold but as soon as we snuggle her in again she is straight back to sleep. She also sleeps with her Jellycat giraffe, has had him since she was a baby but now properly snuggles him under her arm.
Talking
Zilcho, nadda, zip. She is very vocal at times but is showing no signs of trying to make words. When we had her latest check-up at the hospital the doctor commented that ‘some babies are slow’- thanks a lot doc! I am not worried, my sister didn’t utter a sound until her second birthday and talks perfectly as an adult. I do wonder whether the dummy prevents her from making sounds – G used to talk to herself at night as she drifted off to sleep whereas L has her dummy and sucks to sleep. She doesn’t have it in the day too much so it isn’t that she doesn’t have the opportunity. Who knows?!
Whether she can talk or not doesn’t stop her from communicating! She throws her hands out to the side when you ask her something and she doesn’t know. She throws massive tantrums already (2’s will be fun) when she doesn’t get her own way and she has started leading me to places when she wants something specific. Oh, and she shakes her head to say no, so cute but annoying if I actually want her to do something!
Other things to note…
- Biting- she has a fondness of using her teeth to help pull her up onto the sofa- often biting into my leg to get a grip! Ouch!
- She loves to high-five! Really cute!
- Her favourite new skill is that she can turn around and sit down. She loves to sit on the bottom step of our stairs and look into the mirror opposite to wave to me on the toilet haha!
- She is a cute little dancer, wiggle wiggle wiggle!
- She will now throw her dummy in rage! Hilarious as then she has to run and fetch it!
What is your 12 month old up to?

ah she is so cute. It is wonderful watching them develop and grow isn't it. Sometimes older siblings can talk for little ones make the need to talk minimal. I noticed with the boys Jack used to answer for Joe lots until I stopped him. It made Joe a little lazy times. But trust me, he has made up for it since x
