Inside: A review of the Indulgent Spa Day for Two from Buyagift
How often do you take a whole day to yourself? And I don’t mean a day to go do errands – as much as I totally understand the bliss that comes from walking the supermarket aisles alone!
Mums burden themselves with a lot. That is a fact. I’ve read so many articles about the mental load that weighs us down and they all resonate. Being a mother is hard work – more than anyone gives us credit for. And as a result, we tend not to allow ourselves breaks.
I can count on one hand the number of times that I have been to a spa. In fact, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve left the kids! But recently I pledged to myself that I would make an effort to have regular days away from being a mother – just so that my brain has chance to switch off for a while.
For my first day off I wanted to spend it with my good friend Claire. She too has 3 kids and rarely has time off, so I knew we would both soak up every second. I had been kindly gifted a spa day from Buyagift and so off we went to Northampton to Whittlebury Hall.
We arrived nice and early so as to get the most out of our day, were issued with keys for our lockers, a robe and a towel. You have to bring your own footwear so we both took flipflops.
The facilities are lovely and clean, well maintained and have plenty of space to get yourself changed – even in busy periods. The lockers are massive too – none of this squeezing your belongings into a shoebox like you do at swimming pools.
Speaking of swimming pools….. isn’t this fab? There are actually two areas to explore. One is this, part of the main hotel complex and has the pool, a couple of jacuzzis, a steam room and sauna.
We actually spent most of our time in the second area, which is the specific spa part of the hotel. Here you find a hydrotherapy pool, a crystal steam room and an ice cave among other things.
It was so nice to be able to chat in a completely relaxed state, knowing that we weren’t in charge of anyone but ourselves!
As part of our package, we were entitled to a 2-course lunch. This took the form of a buffet, with a selection of dishes to choose from. You can help yourself and can have as many of the dishes as you like. The dessert was a fruit salad, which isn’t everyone’s choice and so was a shame not to have a selection as we’d had for the main.
After lunch, we decided to chill for a while before making our way into the treatment area for the last part of our package. This is located upstairs and offers manicures, pedicures, massages, facials and more. We both opted for back, neck and shoulder massages to try and ease out the stresses of having 6 kids between us – and it worked wonders!
I don’t know where the hours went, but we left feeling refreshed and relaxed – promising ourselves to make it a regular occurrence.
