How To: Make Dried Orange Slices For Christmas

Inside: How to make dried orange slices for Christmas time.

I love Christmas and everything that comes with the season. I love the sights, the sounds and all of the smells.

I love looking in Christmas books and magazines to see the different ideas for around the home but never make the time to make anything. It is a bit like Pinterest when you pin a tonne of ideas but never actually try them!

Make Your Own Festive Dried Orange Decorations

Well, this year I am making the time. I want to make our home as Christmassy as possible and want to create memories for the kids. I want them to look back in years to come and think of their mum as being crafty and creative. I want to be Kirstie Allsopp, I’ll admit it! Cannot wait to see this year’s Homemade Christmas- literally my favourite program!

I digress

I saw these in one of my many Christmas books and decided that I was going to make them. They were super easy to make too so there is no excuse not to try them yourself. All you need are two to three large oranges and an oven! Simple!

Instructions

1. Take an orange and slice it so that you are cutting against the centre of the orange.

2. Once you have your slices, place them on some grease-proof paper and pop them in the oven on 130ºC (260ºF) for 6 to 8 hours – making sure to turn them regularly.

3. Once the time is up, take them out of the oven and pop them on a rack to cool.

4. Once they are cooled you can thread ribbon through them to hang on a tree or put them all in a bowl to enjoy the sweet aroma throughout the holiday season.

There we have it! A natural decoration that smells absolutely amazing!!

I've always fancied trying dried oranges but I worry I'd undercook them and mouldy orange isn't quite the look I'm going for!
