Having A Blogging Bad Day

My latest Tots score has prompted this post but it has actually been brewing for a while. I am not happy with my blog and I am not sure what to do about it. The past year has been absolutely amazing and I am so grateful for everything that has come my way, but I cannot shake this feeling- a feeling that something isn’t right.

The last few weeks I have cut back, said no to campaigns and spent more time with my family- it has been great! However it has meant that when I do blog, it has been to catch up with the few commitments I had agreed to before the ‘break’ leaving no time for anything else. But what else is there?

I think really I have reached a point where I wonder why I am writing, who actually cares what I get up to with my family? I mean, I blog to keep memories, but why I am I sharing them if nobody reads it? My own mum doesn’t read my blog!

Katy I have no idea how to find your blog, I am too old for that nonsense!

Is it nonsense? I hope not. But then sometimes I do just think I write a whole load of tosh. And what for? This month I dropped 712 places in tots!! That was a kick in the gut I can tell you! The score itself doesn’t bother me too much but it is the thought that I have fallen out of favour, that my stats did drop last month and why? Because I haven’t said anything worth reading.

I know lots of people disregard Tots and fair play to them. But for me it is a measure of something (of what I am not entirely sure) but it makes me feel good about myself to see my score go up. A bit like when you drop a dress size, you know? But when it goes wrong it makes you feel like the pits doesn’t it?

I know there is talk that this month’s scores may be incorrect. But quite honestly it still won’t shake the feeling I have been having for a while now. Good score or not, I am not happy and I need to have a serious blog audit to work out where I want to go.

My immediate thoughts are to cut down on the reviews. I’ll be honest I can’t cut them out completely as one, they pay bills, but two I love being able to give my girls things I wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. But I need to cut down as they take up my time that could be spent writing open and honest posts like these.

I want to get back to documenting our lives, I want to build relationships with my readers and have time to live my life!

Enough rambling for now I think, I have to go make cupcakes with my girls.

Oh lovely Katy come on, try not to worry about those silly tots scores. I know that’s easier said than done as I took a fall when they cocked up as well but they seem to have sorted themselves out now. Your blog is completely amazing and don’t ever forget it. Especially the new phonics series you are doing, completely fab and with your teaching background these are the types of posts that are utterly invaluable. Lots of love xxxxx

I haven't even hit Tots' radar so feel free to ignore ... Maybe try to remember why you started blogging in the first place, the things about it you enjoy and the posts others write that you enjoy reading ... Focusing on that might help get the balance between the campaigns (the job bit) and the fun bit. It's not just you. I think we all go through this. It's normal!

Jeremy's advice is also excellent ... Write, hit a Linky or two, then go play!

Ah Katy sorry to hear that. I love the layout and style of your blog. Also I wouldn't worry about TOTs as I have heard it is all wrong this month. BUT you know when something isn't feeling right and I guess until that is figured out you may have that uneasy feeling. I would do what others have advised - maybe write a little less but write what you want to write about? Having more breaks with the family will give you the posts that you want to produce :-) Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst and see you soon xxx

Thank you Sarah, I am going to stop writing posts I am not interested in even if it means turning down a 'freebie' or two. Just not worth it x

I can see how this would be frustrating given you've obviously put a lot of work into building up your blog and it's tough when you realize how quickly things can go in the other direction. Try and remember the reason you started blogging in the first place and find that zone. #bestandworst

You are so right. It is tough thinking it has all gone wrong but it is just one month and I have come such a long way in such a short time so I need to focus on that x
