Celebrating Your Birthday: How To Plan The Special Day You Deserve

Inside: Celebrating Your Birthday: How To Plan The Special Day You Deserve. Collaborative post.

Planning your own birthday can feel indulgent, but celebrating key stages in your life with those you love the most is important.

As we get older, many of us overlook this occasion, but birthdays are an important part of our lives and should be celebrated.

For those whose loved ones can’t plan their celebration for them or who just like to be in control, putting together the perfect birthday itinerary can be a great way to ensure you have the special day you deserve.

Host A Small Themed Party

Adult birthday parties can be boring and stilted, so you could try having a theme that will make things more fun. Consider a cool theme based around something you love, like your favourite book, film or video game. Having a theme can make decorating easier for you and make gift-giving much more straightforward for your guests.

Book A Private Experience

If you want to celebrate your birthday but don’t want a traditional party, then you could try a unique experience. Whether you want to take a private punting tour of a historic city like Cambridge or try an extreme sport for the first time, there’s a private experience to suit any birthday boy or girl.

Make Things Extra Special With Small Finishing Touches

Whatever your plan for your birthday, make sure you add special touches that elevate the day, like decorating your home, having flowers delivered, indulging in your favourite foods, or giving yourself a gift you’ll truly enjoy. Even something as simple as the breakfast you eat to start your day should be your favourite so that you feel that every aspect of your birthday is special. Nothing should be ordinary on your birthday!

Get Help With Your Responsibilities

The world doesn’t stop turning on your birthday, and your kids will still need care, your job will need doing, your home will require cleaning, and your pets will still demand to be fed as soon as they feel the slightest rumble in their bellies. Still, that doesn’t mean you can’t get some help. Ask for support with chores on your birthday so you can spend as much of the day on yourself as possible. You can offer to reciprocate on their birthday to ensure things are fair. If possible, try to take the day off work- many companies offer birthdays off as standard now, but if yours doesn’t, then make sure you book the day off in advance.

Incorporate Self-Care

While celebrating, make sure to build in time for self-care, too. Things like getting a massage, taking a fitness class you love, journaling, or purely relaxing without a schedule can be indulgent and help you feel truly pampered and special. This can also help you to avoid a burnout on your birthday, which is something that can happen if you plan your day out too rigidly.

Ultimately, your birthday is one day that’s all about you. Make sure you take some time to do the things you enjoy with the people you love most in the world.
