How Do My Child’s Lifestyle Choices Affect Their Education?

Inside: How Do My Child’s Lifestyle Choices Affect Their Education? Collaborative post.

A child will be influenced by a lot of things happening in their everyday lives. Lifestyle choices are therefore crucial to a child’s general development – if they are impacting a child’s studies then it’s time to change things up. Here are some things to consider that your child will be impacted by that this private school in Oxford shares with us.

Diet

A healthy diet comprises a range of fruits, vegetables, grains and carbohydrates. You can always have some little treats for your child, especially when they’ve done a good deed or reached a specific goal, but it shouldn’t be constant.

A diet high in sugars, fats and salt not only impacts a child’s weight, but it can also affect your child’s brain power. Your child may not feel as attentive in class compared to others if they’re fed on foods filled with junk and sugar, and it can also affect their sleep patterns too.

Sleep

Your child should be getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night, but this can be more if your child needs that extra couple of hours. Judge how much your child needs to rest each night, and ensure they stick to their routine. Some reasons why your child isn’t sleeping well could be their relationship with electronic devices. Remove these before they head to their bedroom if you feel that is directly impacting when they head to sleep.

Exercise

Like a healthy diet, you can couple this with a healthy amount of exercise each week. Your child will probably be getting involved in a number of activities each week at school, so they’re already getting a head start with their exercise. Explore a range of different exercises your child can pick up with their friends or with family members.

Exercise will raise a child’s heart rate, boost their endorphins and raise adrenaline levels, making them more focused individuals. It also helps a child with their overall fitness and muscle strength, both beneficial for a healthy lifestyle.

Mental health

Some children need a little push in the right direction when it comes to their management of stress. It can mean they have to have a helping hand from their parents, in providing methods that will help them understand stress, what to do when they feel overwhelmed and how to manage low moods. Being aware of how stressed your child could get can help you put plans in place to protect their progress in school and in the outside world.
