Becoming a blogger

Becoming a blogger has given me back my identity, I feel like I am contributing to the world, a tiny bit of the world maybe, but my brain is being used for something other than watching bloody Mr Tumble or playing Guess Who! If I am honest I am not really sure I knew what blogging was about, but now I do and I am so glad I started down this path.

Now I am a few months into the process I am beginning to find my own direction. I am not the blogger I thought I wanted to be at all. There is no point pretending, people will see through the fakery.

So when I first started this blogging malarkey I wanted to help people. I wanted people to look to my blog for support and so my first few posts were ‘How to’s’ and the like. Now as much as these are indeed helpful to people I soon ran out of things to help with and they weren’t overly exciting.
By this point I had started reading other people’s blogs and decided I wanted to jump aboard the ‘kid’s crafts’ bandwagon. I am a teacher and so this is a natural field for me to participate in… or so I thought.

In reality it is hard work to be a kid craft blogger when you have a toddler and a baby to look after. The time it takes to think of an activity, do the activity (while simultaneously taking wonderful photos of a toddler having super super fun and feeding a screaming baby) and then write it all up when the kids are in bed (when really you just want to collapse in a heap) is just too much of an effort. It is not me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love crafts and from time to time I will add to my Messy Play Ideas series as we really do love messy play in our house, but it is not the direction my blog is going to go in, I am just not organised enough.

So now 4 months into it all I have ‘met’ some wonderful bloggers via Twitter and various networking groups on Facebook. I have taken a step back from my own blog to connect with others and read their blogs. I have a few favourite blogs and they are all very different. I cannot name all of them but here are a few to show how varied my taste is:

One of the first blogs I came across was Today’s the Best Day. Danielle lives in USA and her natural American enthusiasm is infectious. Her aim is to help people make the most out of every day, whether that be in their marriage or as parents or just in life in general. I always look forward to her posts and they make me feel happy.

Another blog I really look forward to reading is by Jenna, she blogs over at Tinyfootsteps and I love reading about her little girl. I find I am very similar to her as a mummy blogger so it is nice to find someone like-minded. Her blog is also very pretty, I like pretty things!

I have been following Hurrah for Gin over on Twitter for a while but with the waterfall of tweets you have to sift through every 5 minutes I seem to have always missed new post updates. However, one post caught my eye today and now I am signed up to receive new post updates by email. Katie writes very honestly about anything and everything and she cracks me up!

I really must get around to writing a full list of all my favourite blogs as this is just a snapshot and I have so many that I could name!

I am English and therefore have a  predisposition to being a bit miserable and moany! I love how Katie is so honest about stuff and I am forever putting the world to rights in real life! However, I love how Danielle helps others and as this is how I originally wanted to start my blog there will always be a part of me that wants to share my experiences in the hopes they will help others. Jenna writes about life as a mummy and I love the insights into her days.

So who am I as a blogger?

becoming blogger

I am me, I am a family oriented moaner who loves to boss people around. I am going to write things as I find them and hope that people enjoy my ramblings. My family are my world and so I will most definitely go on about them a bit too much but hey ho. I am sure I will change my style as time goes on but for now I feel like I am comfortable enough in my own skin just to write as it flows. If people enjoy it then great, if not then this will be one hell of a diary of my life to show the grandchildren!

Thank you so much for the mention. I know there are thousand upon thousands of blogs out there so I am truly SO flattered when anybody says that they enjoy reading mine. Thank you for saying it's pretty too - I designed a lot of my blog layout myself and always think it looks a bit, erm, naff! You've made my day.

Thank you. xx
