6 Ways to upgrade your home

Inside: 6 Ways to upgrade your home. Collaborative post.

Has it been a while since you made any changes to your home? If it has, then now may be the time to make some changes. Upgrading your home is the perfect excuse to add new tech as well as personalise it, so it matches your personality. And on top of that, you can simply create a more beautiful living environment – it’s a win-win!

Upgrading your home doesn’t have to be a complete rebuild. There are so many different things you can do to make improvements. Take your garden, for instance, repainting your fences, mowing your lawn and adding some ornaments, and quickly it becomes a favourite place for you to relax in the evening.

When making changes, if you damage your tools, it can be cheaper to look into a power tool repair service, instead of replacing them all altogether.

From adding artwork to your walls to repainting your bedroom, below we have put together a brief guide on six ways to update your home. Keep on reading to discover some of the best changes to make to have a big impact.

Start adding technology throughout your home

One of the first things you can do to modernise your home is start implementing technological changes. Tech has developed massively over the years, with properties benefiting from this. A good place to start is installing a smart thermostat.

Google Nest is great as it means you can control your heating from an app on your phone – perfect when you want to heat your home up before you arrive back. Smart locks can be installed, reducing the need for keys, and you can also install smart security cameras, helping make your home a safer place to be – you can never be too careful!

Add artwork to your walls

When you walk around your home, how do your walls present themselves? Are they decorated nicely, or fairly blank with nothing on them? Artwork is a great place to start when wanting to add another dynamic to a room, and it’s considered an upgrade as well. Artwork adds personality as well as colour, which can uplift a room and change the feel instantly. Along with having artwork on the walls, you could also add pictures from your favourite occasions and hang a mirror, as mirrors are great at making a room look bigger and brighter, and they reflect the light.

Play around with your lighting

Talking about lighting, this is another way you can upgrade your home. Lighting doesn’t just illuminate a space; it sets the mood, defines the atmosphere, and can even make a room feel larger or cosier. You can purchase different-sized lamps to add different levels to your lighting.

For example, you could use a tall standing lamp in your living room and then have a small side table in your hallway on a console table. When choosing the bulbs for your lamps, smart lights are ideal. This way, you can control them through your voice, or your phone and smart bulbs tend to be cheaper to run than standard bulbs.

Don’t be afraid to experiment- lighting is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to refresh your home’s look and feel.

Repainting some of your rooms

Sometimes the simplest of upgrades can make the biggest difference, and that is certainly true when it comes to repainting. Have your walls been the same, simple colour since you moved in? By refreshing your walls with a new coat of paint, you can instantly transform the mood and energy of your space. Instead of painting with the same colour you currently have, why not try something new?

Change a white wall and paint it a light blue, or repaint a light blue wall to a calming green? For inspiration on what colour to paint your walls, take a look at Pinterest, as there are some great examples for you to look at.

Upgrade your garden

A lot of people will start with the inside of their home when making upgrades, but don’t forget about your garden. There is so much you can do to transform your garden into a space which you are proud of and would want to relax in after a busy day at work.

You could install some decking – perfect for hosting a BBQ on. You could add some cosy seating spots – this will encourage you to relax outside, when the weather is nice. Or you could install a fire pit – perfect for when the weather starts to drop and it gets colder at night.

Uses rugs

We love rugs! They are cosy, make a place look warm and quickly change how a room feels. You can use rugs to make your wood flooring look different, or layer a rug on top of your carpet to add a new feel to the room. Rugs come in all shapes and sizes, which is a lot of fun to play with. For example, you could get a circular rug for your bedroom and then a hexagon rug which you sit your dining table on.

We mentioned above that Pinterest is a good place to look for painting inspiration. It is also a useful place to look when trying to decide the type of rug you would like to opt for in each room. Instagram is also useful when finding the right home influencer to follow.

We hope we have inspired you to make some positive changes to your home. Some changes will cost more than others, so choose the ones which suit your budget best. Whether it’s a new coat of paint or adding artwork to the wall, we are sure you will enjoy the new changes you make.
