This year I want to make the effort to look nice, every single day. That night sound a bit unmanageable if you are sitting there surrounded by madness but hear me out! I have three kids so I know full well that finding time to make any sort of effort is a bit tricky.. but… and there is a but… as long as you have a wardrobe that works for you, you can manage it.
Before I started the new year I had a lot of clothes but I never had anything to wear. Does that sound like you too? I’m betting it does. A while back I Konmari’d my house and this included my clothes. I did get rid of a lot and I had lots of lovely things neatly folded away in my drawers. I thought that would solve my issue – if I only had clothes that fitted and that I liked then I would have plenty to wear, right? Wrong!!
Ages ago I read a post by the lovely Katie over at Pouting In Heels about how she had arranged her wardrobe by outfit as part of a way to help her get ready quickly in the mornings and I’ve finally made the time to do it myself. Now I didn’t go as far as hanging things into outfits as quite honestly I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep that up. Instead, after laying out all of my bottoms, grouping tops that went nicely with those bottoms and finding shoes and extras like cardigans etc…, I was able to put things away in an organised way. So all of my tops that go with jeans are in one section of my drawer while tops which are better suited to leggings are in another row (Konmari has everything in rows and I am a bit obsessed).
Once I had grouped things I actually realised that I didn’t have many outfits at all and that I own 9 pairs of plain black leggings… NINE!!! Thankfully with the January sales on and having been given a few vouchers for Christmas I made a list of some key items and went out to find some bottoms (that weren’t leggings) and some other bits and bobs.
With my new clothes I was able to group them into outfits successfully and I wanted to share them with you.
With winter only just beginning I am all about the jumpers at the moment. I’m not normally keen on grey against my skin tone but darker grey seems to work for me. Teaming it up with my new Jamie jeans, which are so flattering with a high rise and I feel really smart.
I picked up this gorgeous jumper yesterday and I adore it! It is so soft! This time paired with a light Joni jean which again have that high rise so are super flattering!
I got my over sized cream jumper a month or so ago and it is one of my favourite things to wear, very hyggelig!! Although I am wearing leggings less in favour of jeans, I do adore my high rise leggings (notice all of my bottoms are high rise).
I do love a dress and I have one just like this but also a breastfeeding friendly version now that I need booby access. All of these outfits will work as long as you have a little vest top underneath the main top and you can do the one up one down trick!
Now I do love a stripe and I’ll pretty much always head to the striped clothes as soon as I walk into a shop. I am trying to branch out but I had to include at least one or two stripey tops! I’ve had this blue striped top for absolutely ages, H&M clothes just last and last don’t they?
More stripes… Teaming them up with my new favourite shoes in the whole wide world. Converse are everywhere and as much as I am not normally one to jump on a bandwagon I have caved and I can now see why everyone loves them. I want ALL the colours!
Navy jumper // Jeans // Knee high brown boots
Last outfit for the week and you guessed it, another jeans combo. I think I might get addicted to buying jeans as much as I apparently did with my leggings. They just go with everything don’t they? Teaming with my new knee high boots and I just feel so put together.
So that is it, 7 outfits that I will go back to time and time again. Of course I have a few more tops and I will alternate them with the various pairs of jeans I own. As we move towards spring I will go through my wardrobe again, pairing up some different looks for the warmer weather and again when we get to summer. It is so nice to be able to go to my wardrobe, choose a bottom (probably always jeans) and then go to my drawer and pick out a top I know will make me look and feel great.
With my speedy 5 minute makeup routine I always feel like I can face the day and will feel much more confident at the school gates! Honestly, if you feel like you never have anything to wear then go sort by outfit – you’ll love it too!
