To my beautiful little girl,
Happy birthday!! You are 4, how exciting is that? I cannot believe it actually, doesn’t seem a minute that I was writing last year’s letter to you! It is also time to measure you on our chart, I don’t think you have grown as much as you did last year but you are definitely taller by a good few inches. When you were a baby they said you would be short with big feet but it looks as though you are going to be tall with small feet, unlike your sister who will take after me in the shoe department!
This year has flown by, it really has. You have gone from being my little toddler to quite a grown up miss. You have done 2 terms at pre-school and are now flourishing at nursery. I honestly couldn’t be prouder, you are just the most amazing little girl. You have a thirst for knowledge, unlike anyone I have ever come across in all my years teaching. You seem to absorb everything and anything and commit it to memory with ease. I just hope you keep that ability for the future when you’ll be sitting exams!
I wish you weren’t growing up so fast, this morning you skipped on ahead of me on the way to nursery and my mind flashed forward to the future, to a day when you will walk ahead of me on your way to secondary school. I know that time will soon be here and I can’t quite bear it. Not that you have ever been a cuddly child but I just know that it won’t be long until I won’t be your mummy anymore, just mum. You won’t want to hold my hand or have a lift up the stairs to bed. That is why I need to treasure these moments and keep you in my arms for as long as possible.
I realised in the last few weeks that I treat you a little unfairly. I baby your sister but treat you as though you are much older than your age. I am going to stop that now and baby you for a little longer. I won’t send you off to get dressed on your own, I will come with you and help you button up your shirt. Those simple acts will just show you that little bit more that I love you. I really love you.
You had your school photo done this week, I can’t wait to get it home and hang it on the wall. I really must start printing photos out more anyway, I have thousands and thousands on cards around the house but should sort them and get them up so we can have our memories there for us to see every day. We have made some great memories this year with our first family holiday and various trips out together.
My favourite days have been the ones when it has been just the two of us though. Seeing how happy you have been to have your mummy all to yourself made me see how much I have neglected our bond. Having a sister was a blessing but it did mean you had to share me. Those days have been so special though, time for you to get me on your own, to laugh and play like we used to.
Your bond with LJ is so strong now though, she is just the right age for playing and you have so much fun together! You have spent so many days laughing hysterically as you both bounced on the trampoline together. You have taught her all the tricks you know and she does exactly as you say. You have also taught her how to do puzzles, I really do think you will be a teacher when you are older- you are a natural.
I think that is all for now. It won’t be long until I am writing next year’s letter I am sure! Happy birthday my darling girl, mummy loves you so much.
