Pony Rides and Feeding Birds

I have been really rubbish at exploring our local area in the 3 years we have lived here. I tend to get stuck in a rut and go to the same old places. Thankfully my friend is great at thinking of places to go and so far we have had an awesome summer holiday!

Last Friday we drove a little over half an hour to Aldenham Country Park, near Watford. I used to live right around the corner and my school used to take the Reception children there but I have never thought to take the girls!

We arrived nice and early and went to get our tickets. We got a little confused by all of the pick n mix options available, not the clearest of ticket buying processes but in the end opted for a family adventure ticket (2 adults, 2 children and the littlies were free).

Our ticket bought us 2 pony rides, unlimited access to the farm and half an hour on the monkey nets. We also had to pay £4.50 for the car park which I think is extortionate but they had us over a barrel.

Pony rides

Little G was so excited to be going on a pony I thought she might even burst! Her’s was called Pip, the smallest one there and it was love at first sight!

She set off with a huge smile on her face! I was a little nervous sending her off on her own but I have to loosen the reins sometime….. see what I did there??

aldenham horse 3It was only a 5 minute ride but it was possibly the best 5 minutes of her life to date! I may have to look into lessons further down the line.

100 Aker Wood

Next was the 100 Aker Wood, free to get in so if you fancy an afternoon out you can pop along (for the price of parking of course!).

I loved Winnie The Pooh as a child, we were saying you don’t see much of him these days unless it is plastered all over newborn baby products. I must try and get a dvd of the original movie to show Little G.

I had told her all about Pooh sticks and she was really excited to play- unfortunately the river was still and stagnant! Boo!!

We found a nice spot to have our lunch, another picnic- they are becoming a staple for us these days! Unfortunately the wasps were out in force and it wasn’t long until we were packed up and heading off to the farm!

The farm

Their farm isn’t very big, so just the right size for little legs. You are given animal feed as part of your ticket so the girls were able to get hands on.

Monkey nets

We were given a time slot to go to the adventure playground so we made our way up after the farm. We didn’t think the kids would be able to manage it but the staff were lovely and lifted them up to the first level and they were fine after that. They both climbed right to the top- we had our hearts in our mouths!!
