Entertaining Kids In The Heat

When I packed for the girls I ummed and ahhhhed about taking things to keep them occupied. A couple of people said I wouldn’t need anything as they would be so busy in the pool and I almost listened… almost.

For the week we were away the temperature didn’t drop below 38 degrees and on one of the days it climbed as high as 41 degrees!! This was far too hot and dangerous to be out in the open so we spend long periods of each day sheltering in the shade of our safari tent.

I laid out a blanket for the girls and they kept themselves busy with a selection of goodies I’d packed in their Trunki cases.

Little G loves magazines, she asks to have one every time we go to the shops. Most of the time they take about 2 seconds to flick through and then get tossed aside. This one kept her entertained for absolutely ages!

I guess it is like adult magazines, some are full of ads and some keep you engaged for ages- well this one was certainly a hit! It is called First Friends and has all of their favourite characters as well as stories and games to keep them occupied.

It is the simple things in life that give the greatest pleasure and this is so true in this instance- the magazine came with a miniature tea set and well, you can see they really enjoyed playing with it!

Another great pack came from Baker Ross and Little G had so much fun with it! Crafting is by far her favourite thing to do, at home, at school and even on holiday.

The Jumbo Paint Pad is perfect for hand-printing but here she used her little dinosaur stampers to create her picture. She loves dinosaurs and knows all of their names!

We also brought the rainbow foam stickers and snap bracelets with us and had great fun designing one each for all the family. It was Mr F’s birthday while we were away so of course he had one too! We have a few goodies left to use so keep an eye out to see what we get up to.

I had my doubts as to whether taking bits and bobs was a waste of time or not, whether it was unnecessary luggage. However, with the soaring heat it all proved invaluable and I will be making sure we pack them again next time!
