As part of my Happiness Project I am trying to re-evaluate my life. I am ridding myself of clutter in the physical sense and trying to de-clutter my mind at the same time! I want to fill my world with things which make me happy, there is no room for meaningless tat anymore.
A question which is raised in the book is ‘am I fun?’ and this really got me thinking. Am I? In all honesty I don’t think I am at all. When compared directly with Mr F I am most definitely not the fun parent. I guess it is the whole good cop, bad cop scenario- I am the disciplinarian in the family. It comes naturally to me whereas he has always been the one messing about at nappy changes etc..
But what about when he isn’t around? Who is providing the fun during the day when he is at work?
My goal for February is to find my fun side. I want my girls to know that I can be fun too. I have written a list of things I want to do with them over the month, things that will push my boundaries and help me to embrace my inner child!
- Play a game of chase around the house. (Ordinarily Mr F does this and I sit and watch.)
- Tuff spot activities- I am going to be taking part in the Tuff Spot A-Z in March hosted by the lovely Emma over at Adventures of Adam so I need to have a bank of activities up my sleeve!
- Try out the glow in the dark bath – Jenna’s post looks amazing doesn’t it?
- Get our wellies and rainsuits on and go muddy puddle jumping!
- Go out in the garden and plant some seeds
- Paint more- I really love handprinting!
- Tickle them- laughter is good for the soul!
- Have a picnic in the living room.
- Go to the library more
- Build a den in their rooms and let them keep it up.
- Face painting- and let them paint my face too!
- Have a pillow fight!
Really I just want them to laugh and for me to laugh along with them. I spend far too much time being serious and it is time to lighten up!
What do you do for fun?

[…] We have tried to make the best of being at home though, we made some little octopuses out of toilet rolls, keeping to my promise to myself to be more fun. […]

Looks like a lot of us are the not so fun parents out of the pair! Probably as we are the ones who take on the responsibilities!!

So many brilliant ideas here Kate, I am sure you and the girls are going to have lots of fun this month and I can't wait to read how you get on with it all. :)
Thanks for including my glow bath post too.

Love this post Katy :) Jim is much better than me at being the 'fun' parent, I get stressed when things don't go to my plan, which invariably they don't with babies/toddlers!! Your list of fun activities sounds great, I'm looking forward to seeing your Tuff Spot ones! Good luck xx

I think there will always be a parent who is more fun, but doesn't mean we can't be a bit more fun eh? x
