Sopwell House – A spooktacular night!

This Halloween was going to pass us by pretty much unnoticed this year- we have bought a tub of sweets and the girls had matching dresses, but that was it. I wasn’t planning on going anywhere or making too much of a big deal out of it. That was until we won tickets to the Halloween and Bonfire Extravaganza at Sopwell House!!

First of all- I never win ANYTHING!! So I almost fainted when the tweet came through to say I had won!! A big thank you to Sopwell House for giving me hope that anyone can win if you take part!

I am not sure what I was expecting of the night to be honest. I have been to Sopwell House before – Mr F and I were married there back in 2010! If you fancy a nosey my wedding is featured over on You Baby Me Mummy at the moment!

We arrived and were greeted by a the hosts- all dressed up in full costumes which immediately set the tone for the evening. We were offered drinks of hot chocolate, cider and blue lemonade. Of course Little G chose the lemonade – what child doesn’t love a coloured drink?!

Nothing prepared me for the main hall though- tables beautifully decorated with cobwebs and candelabras. It was like going to a wedding with a Halloween theme! We found a table and I went outside to get the food. YUM!! A bbq and hogroast! What’s not to love?! I towered burgers high with pulled pork for me and Mr F while Little G wanted a hotdog smothered in ketchup! I nabbed a frankfurter for Baby L and she gobbled it all up the little piggy!

Once we had finished our meal we went to check out all of the activities laid on for the children. There was biscuit decorating, toffee apple dipping, hand decorating (with glitter etc) and face painting! Of course G wanted her face painted so we spent half an hour queuing for that. Well worth it though as she looked amazing!!

I wish we had arrived sooner as we ran out of time to do it anything else as it was time for the fireworks! We made a mad dash up to the walled garden in time to see the massive bonfire light up the grounds. The hosts handed out sparklers for the children which was a nice touch.

The fireworks themselves were really impressive, G did not enjoy them at all unfortunately, complaining the whole time they were too ‘bangy’. Considering Baby L is only 10 months she was amazing and was fascinated by the whole event. I had her in a sling so I don’t know if that helped her feel more secure.

We could have stayed longer and entered the fancy dress competition – of course my girls would have won haha! Both were tired though so we headed home- not before bagging ourselves some of the balloons from the foyer!

Of course we were lucky to win our tickets, if we would have had to pay I am not sure I would have gone with young children. For older children/ teenagers it would be a great place to go though or even just as a group of adults. It was an intimate affair and a great night out!
