In The Book Corner: The Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen

There are some books that are just magical, some that just make you want to snuggle on the sofa and get lost in the words. The Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen is one of them. When I opened up the package from Parragon Books and saw what was inside I was so excited to read it to the girls. It is a little old for LJ but she really enjoys snuggling up with us and looking at the pictures. It is perfect for Little G though, although if you are wanting a true picture book then this isn’t for you. She loves words and loves to use her imagination, so the fact it only has one or two pictures per story doesn’t matter to us.

Hans Christian Andersen

There are 8 stories in total, from The Ugly Duckling to The Snow Queen- all classics from Hans Christian Andersen written over 200 years ago. Isn’t that amazing? The power of written word still stays strong after so many years, I love that.

Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen

We have been reading it at bedtime and Little G has been so excited to see which story will be next in the treasury. The language used is quite complex, which we have actually really enjoyed as it has meant Little G has enhanced her understanding of words – always something I have encouraged.

Little G reading fairy tales

She has such a love for books and will often disappear up into her room to read to herself. By read I mean retell the story from the pictures of course but this is all good progress towards being able to read properly. She loves reading this book to herself as they are all classic fairy tales- her favourite being The Princess and the Pea as she finds it hilarious that the princess could feel a teeny tiny pea!

Have you got a favourite fairy tale?

Such a beautiful book, it's amazing that these fairy stories still hold such a special place for all of us generation after generation. It's very comforting X
