Mothers Judging Mothers

When you look at me what do you see?

You see a number, an age, the year of my birth.
I am younger than you, we cannot be friends.
You look me up and down, judge me by my looks, my youth.
You have no room in your life for me, a young mum.

You are older, a career woman finally turned mum. You have ‘earned’ your right to stay at home. To be a mum. You have friends the same age, all the same as you. You all look at me and judge, a young mum.

I look in the mirror, what do I see?

I see a mum of 30, not so young actually. Not that it matters, I am still a mum.
I love my children, they are my world. I care for them as a good mum should and they are happy. They look at me and see a mum, they don’t care how old I am.

Actually, I worked hard through school and had a career- I gave it up as it wasn’t important to me. I had my children early, that was my choice and now my husband works hard so I can be at home, just like you.

I am a good friend but you will never know because I am a young mum, not the same as you

Being a mum is my biggest and proudest achievement and would've been whatever circumstances I became one. That should be the priority of mums, not judging others. Brilliant post x

Truly shocked to hear you've encountered this. Amazing how people can be so judgemental isn't it?

It really saddens me as motherhood is tough enough at times without having to deal with this kind of playground mentality. Surely to goodness, we need to be in this together?!

I have friends of all ages - from 21 - 67 (and i'm 35), some with children, and some without and age or motherhood status is never an issue to me. If I like someone, I like them, it's as simple as that.

Please ignore the silly mums who treat you this way (who should know better!) and have faith - that one day you'll find 'your own tribe' as they say. In the meantime just kill them with kindness and keep being fabulous. Much love X

I long to find like-minded mums in our area. I just hope that one day I do find them- for now I have made some fab friends through blogging and that sees me through x

I felt like I had this problem as I looked young. Luckily I found that having a baby or now in this case a toddler has been a great leveller! I just assume now everyone is my age and then get shocked when they are older or younger!!

Where I live they are so judgemental, makes me so sad x
