I love reading inspirational words, whether that be in the form of a book, a poem or a simple quote. I always come away feeling uplifted and wanting to make positive changes in my life. A few weeks ago I asked my Facebook community what their favourite quotes were and it was so lovely seeing what people had to say. My wall was filled with happiness and strength!
I want you to come away from this post feeling inspired- through the words provided by these gorgeous women. Sometimes all you need are the words and that is enough to give you what you need to feel different and therefore act differently!
♦ Sometimes I look at others and wish I had their lives. Lusting after things I don’t have is no good at all and only results in sadness. Amy over at Mr and Mrs T plus 3 reminded me of this great quote.
Comparison is the thief of joy.
So true isn’t it? I need to look to others for inspiration for my life- if I want a nice home then I need to redecorate and make my home my castle!
♦ This leads on nicely to this great quote Ruth over at at Mummy and The Mexicans.found on Days In Bed.
Don’t let what you want affect what you have.
Just so true, I am often so busy lusting after something else that I forget to appreciate what is right under my nose! Ruth also had this quote to share from Maya Angelou
Success is liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it.
Both so true don’t you think?
♦ If blogging has taught me anything it is that wishes and dreams can come true. Hannah from Budding Smiles had this lovely quote to share, told to her by a friend many years ago and it is just lovely.
Dream your dreams then live them
♦ This leads on nicely to this lovely phrase from Bridget over at Hot Tea Travel & Thyme
A goal is a dream with a deadline
Some people may think you are crazy to have dreams but why shouldn’t you? Live your dreams and make them goals. Otherwise if you don’t truly believe you can achieve something then why dream at all? Just go for it!
Bridget also shared this really cute one.
A penguin can’t be a giraffe, so just be the best penguin you can be.
You may wish you could be someone else but comparing yourself to someone else is ridiculous. It is like me wishing I was a size 8 with size 6 feet- never going to happen! Instead I dress myself to suit my size and rock my size 8 shoes!
♦ I am terrible for procrastinating and for a long time would put important things off. Rachel over at Caged Canary shared this quote and it is so true- don’t put it off, whatever it is.
Life is short, do the thing..
♦ Everyone on the page was so empowered it seems, Sylvia Nicklin had a great one to share..
Life is not a rehearsal . live it live
I am trying to live for the moment so much more. Having small children means there isn’t time to sit around and wait- otherwise they will be all grown up!
♦ Another strong quote from Michelle over at A Family Chatter.
Go hard or go home
Why bother if you aren’t going to give something your all?
♦ Fiona over at Free Range Chick had two phrases to share.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
Go out there and get what you want/need, and don’t expect people to read your mind.
100% true and something I am starting to try and remember more often- you must chase those dreams, don’t wait for them to come to you!
♦ Laura over at Life With Baby Kicks lives out in Dubai and so the quote she shared couldn’t be more apt.
We travel not to escape life but for life not to escape us
Travelling is not something I have ever felt the need to do but reading that quote made me think- does that mean life escapes me? I hope not! I guess we all have our own way of living and I am a homing pigeon!
♦ Alice over at The Filling Glass shared a fab quote and maybe me not travelling shouldn’t worry me after all.
Only regret the things you have done, not those you haven’t.
I always look to the future, no sense dwelling on what might have been. However I never really regret things I have done either which leads on to….
♦ Sophie over at Mumma And More shared this quote that is one that I really believe in and always try and keep at the front of my mind.
Everything happens for a reason
♦ Sometimes even though we may know something is happening for a reason it is really difficult to believe it at the time. Paloma over at Photography By Paloma shared a beautiful way of thinking about it.
We cannot predict or control the winds, but we can adjust our sails
She also shared one I have never heard before but I know my mum would love it- she always told me “there’s no such word as can’t” which always infuriated me as a child but she is right really.
She turned her can’ts into cans, and her dream into plans
♦ Emma over at Mrs Shilts would agree with Paloma as she had this to share:
She believed she could, so she did
This time last year I decided to start a blog. Mr F thought I was mad but I really believed I could make it work- and I have! Just shows you can do anything if you put your mind to it!
♦ I am a terrible worrier. I cannot do anything at all if I have something on my mind. My mum is forever telling me not to worry and that things will always work out for the best- and as usual she is always right. Abby over at Mummy Muddler lives by this quote and I really need to try and follow suit!
Don’t sweat the small stuff
♦ If you can’t adjust your sails and the small stuff becomes big stuff then you need to live by this from Helen Channelle.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
She also shared this one
A smile can mask a thousand tears
I do believe things make you stronger, my past has definitely shaped the way I am today.
♦ A while ago I wrote a piece about how I was bullied at school. Just writing it made me feel so much better and helped me get over it once and for all. Renee Davies shared this quote:
Make peace with your past, no matter how dark it is, otherwise it will haunt you forever.
I know so many people who have not made peace with their past and it really does effect their every day and casts a constant shadow over everything they do.
♦ Rosey from PND and Me shared this phrase- one she uses a lot when talking to others with PND and I think we could all do with reminding ourselves of this every now and again.
I have come to realize that caring for myself is not selfish, caring for myself is an act of survival
♦ Sometimes it feels as though something will never end. As mothers I am sure we can all relate to this- sleepless nights, endless crying, the list goes on…. Em from Snowing Indoors shared a phrase that is embedded in my brain and she actually has it tattooed on her arm!
This too shall pass
Hard to remember it at 4am but it really is true. And sadly the good soon passes too, those newborn days pass far too quickly!
♦ Sometimes it feels as though nothing good will come of a bad situation. Steph over at Mental Parentals shared a quote that really struck a chord with me. 3 years ago I suffered a miscarriage and it was the darkest of days- LJ is my rainbow baby and brightened up my life.
When it’s dark, look for stars. When it’s raining, look for rainbows.
♦ While we are talking about the weather, of course there was always going to be one and Amber Thorne shared this one.
Don’t eat yellow snow
Oh Amber you always do make me chuckle!!
♦ Bringing us back to the serious stuff D.S. Nelson over at Be A Green Bean shared this from Henry David Thoreau.
What’s the use of a fine house if you haven’t got a tolerable planet to put it on?
So true, we really do need to look after our planet. It frightens me as to what we are leaving behind for our children’s children.
I really enjoyed reading through everyone’s quotes and even re-reading them and writing them in this post has left me feeling so uplifted.
There is one that I want to leave you with from Helen Hannon, she shared a fabulous quote that everyone should keep in mind when they feel as though someone is trying to bring them down.
If people are trying to bring you down, it only means that you are above them
Believe in yourself, look after yourself and live your dreams. Don’t let anyone bring you down- you are amazing!
