My Husband, A Father

As a little girl all I ever wanted was to be a mummy and have a husband. I am now living that dream and I love it. I have been with Mr F for almost 12 years now and he is my best friend in the whole world. But what is he like as a father?

When we met we were both 18 and so I had no idea how our lives would pan out. He was a tall blonde guy who made me smile- I didn’t even consider what he would be like as a father. After a while we discussed having children and I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. Just over 3 years ago we decided to try for a baby. I knew him inside and out and I knew he was kind and gentle but still, you never know until the moment of truth.
His fathering skills started to show towards the end of my pregnancy. He would come home from work, sit next to me and talk to my bump- she responded to his voice and a bond was starting to form. He was there during my labour and suddenly there she was- I was a mummy and he was a daddy. We didn’t really get a chance to hold her as it was midnight and he was told he had to go home until the next day. So off he went shell-shocked, leaving me totally clueless as to what to do with a baby!
At 8am (on the dot) the next day he arrived. She had just done her first poo and he immediately changed her nappy (to my relief!!) I tell you, that is true love right there!!  He picked her up and held her over his shoulder, she was so tiny and I knew in that very moment that he was going to be the best daddy in the world to that little girl. His princess.

I always worried that having a girl would be difficult for him. He is one of three boys and boy things is all he knew. I needn’t have worried, luckily Little G is a bit of a tom-boy at times but equally he is prepared to sit and have his hair done or play dress-up. His family are his world and he would do anything for us. He goes to work each day to provide for us, to make sure we have a comfortable life together. He comes home and his first thoughts are us. He kisses us all and asks how our day has been.
Now he is a father to two girls and is well and truly outnumbered. He recently said he loves that we had girls as he feels like he is our protector. He makes me feel safe and I know as the girls grow up they will turn to him for support.

When I met my best friend all those years ago I never knew how I lucky I was. Not only had I met someone to make me happy but I had met someone who would be the best dad anyone could ever ask for. So what is he like as a father? One word: amazing!
From your 3 girls we say happy Father’s Day. xxx
