How to baby-proof your home

Inside: How to baby-proof your home. Collaborative post.

Is it really necessary to baby-proof your home, you might wonder?. The sound reply to this is a big Yes. All overjoyed parents experience the thrill and pleasure of parenthood and begin making preparations for the arrival of their child.

There’s a whole new list of to-do things, from decorating the kid’s room and stocking it with toys and accessories to planning their first kindergarten, and so on.

Amidst all the excitement, they should pay attention to details to make their home safe for their adorable toddlers while they start moving freely all around the home and are more prone to accidents and falling ill.

Let’s start with flooring

Once your little one learns to crawl and walk, they will go all the way to touch and taste everything they can get their hands on, leading to infections and illness. Now, it is not possible to sanitize the whole house, but a few precautionary steps will surely help your child’s well-being.

Floor carpets are a big no for a home with a newborn as they create major hygiene issues while absorbing dirt and other infectious dusty particles which may be left behind even after vacuuming.

When your child crawls on the floor with their bare hands and then puts them in their mouth, these dangerous particles enter their body, resulting in diseases such as stomach infection, breathing problems, cough, and so on.

To ensure your child’s good health, you need to buy laminate flooring made of resin and high-quality fiber wood, which is easier to clean and disinfect, unlike the floor carpets.

In addition, laminate offers a child-friendly flooring option that is non-slippery, and the fact that no glue is required during installation makes it environmentally friendly.

Mind naked power sockets and wires

Your overexcited kid is more curious than you may think and would try to insert their little fingers in all the holes around the house without knowing the difference between a hole in the wall or a power socket. Therefore, cover all the power sockets and naked wires with child safety covers and electric tapes to avoid any electric shock.

Avoid sharp edges

While walking and running, your child has no idea when to stop. Because their reflexes are still developing, they are more likely to tumble and hit their heads on sharp edges of furniture or other sharp objects, injuring themselves.

To avoid tripping, make sure all sharp edges are covered with kid-friendly soft rubber corner patches, and there is enough space in the room for them to walk freely.

Stack all the harmful bottles and heavy away

Keep all the bottles, be it alcohol, floor cleaners, syrups, disinfectants, away from the inquisitive hands of your ignorant little ones to avoid any mishappenings.

There are chances of heavy objects falling and injuring your little one. Therefore, it is advisable to sweep them away from a height and far from the reach of your child.
