There is a reason it is called the most wonderful time of the year. As the season of Christmas draws near, the child in you gets ready to play as you think about all the presents and decorations that’s going to take place. Christmas is one of the best times to unleash the creativity in you and with the right touches in the right places, you can transform your home to a Christmas wonderland. Here’s how:
When can I begin?
The thought of Christmas gets everyone excited for the festivities underway so, it’s a bit tricky deciding when to put up your Christmas decorations or at least prepare. As soon as Thanksgiving ends, some already have their Christmas decorations up and ready to go. Others wait until a week before Christmas to set their decorations or do it on Christmas Eve.
The truth is, there is no such thing as an appropriate time to put up Christmas decorations. It all depends on you. There are a lot of events to get done before the day therefore, I would advise that you make it one of the first things you do as you prepare for the joyous occasion.
This will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed and give you a chance to put as much thought into it. Plus, effecting a change early, creates a natural flow between fall and winter as your home gets to experience a visual change.
Start at the heart
Decorating for Christmas is one of the best ways to create a homey feel while lightening up the atmosphere of your home. If Christmas is the best time to light up your home, then what better place to than at the heart- the kitchen.
The kitchen is a place where people gather and most of the activities going on in the house happens there. You can start with something simple like putting a wreath on the wall or some decorations on the window. If you want to take it a step further, try changing your napkins to a Christmas color and changing the center piece to the colors of Christmas.
Using food can be a great way to decorate the kitchen and give you the image you are looking for. Gingerbread cookies colored in green and red would look great on the center table along with some nuts and dry fruits in a bowl.
Now we Feast
After the kitchen has been done, the next place to work on would be the dining room. It’s a good place to pick up the pace and help you decide on how the general decorations would look like. You can place a Christmas tree in the dining room and decorate the place with some winter theme pieces or the colors of Christmas.
You can add a little bit more fun by making the plate setting on the table a bit homier instead of the classic look we are all accustomed to.
What can I do for lights?
There are various options for Christmas lights in the market. Everything boils down to what you are looking for and what works best for your home. You can choose between incandescent lights or led lights but you need to be aware of the pros and cons before you make that decision.
Incandescent lights use more power and electricity than LED. They also emit a bit more heat than LED lights and can be expensive. On the other hand, LED lights don’t consume as much electricity, are cheaper, and do not put as much strain on the power source. Depending on your budget, you can then decide which you want.
You can buy some lights for your Christmas tree to give it a fancy look. Speaking of trees, what you pick depends on your preference. If you don’t like the thought of going tree shopping every year or having to maintain a fresh tree, then get a plastic one. Some plastic trees are realistic and can give you the same effect as a real tree.
The important thing is to make sure your tree looks great because it is the centrepiece of the festivities.
