It isn’t often that mums get time to themselves, with time to relax and escape the calls of ‘mummy’ and the endless jobs around the house. I can actually count on one hand the number of times I have taken a ‘me day’ in my whole 7 years of being a mother.
And that isn’t good enough.
A friend and I decided that it was high time that we put ourselves first for a change and so headed off to Cambridge for a day of shopping and good food.
And good food it was!
The Ivy has recently opened a new restaurant in Cambridge, a brasserie, which offers all-day casual dining.
The inside is absolutely gorgeous, all designed by Martin Brudnizki, who is responsible for the beautiful features at other Ivy restaurants. Incorporating classic British design to give it a stylish and glamorous feel.
Drinks sorted, we headed to our table to see what we fancied.
I ordered a tuna dish to start and honestly, I don’t think I will be able to eat it any other way again!
Tuna Carpaccio – Yellowfin tuna with tomato, watermelon, ponzu dressing, miso mayo and sesame.
And looking at her Crispy Duck Salad, I think she would agree that the starters were a hit!
Next came the mains and I went down the traditional route with The Ivy Shepherd’s Pie. I did worry that I was playing it safe but it was so delicious I would definitely choose it again!
If you are a seafood fan then look no further than the Crab Linguine – very filling and very satisfying.
We both had no doubt about our dessert – it had to be the Chocolate Bombe. If you watched my stories (if not just look in my highlights to see) you’ll have seen the bombe melt away – fun and delicious is my kinda dessert!
Just look at it! I could do with another one right now!
We soaked up every single second of our time together, both enjoying being able to talk uninterrupted and enjoy our meals. Laughing over wine and sobering up over coffee.
We’ve agreed that we need more days like this. More days to be us. Because we are more than mums, we are women who enjoy shopping and good food.
And good food it was!
If you are in need of a day to be you, then head on down to The Ivy Cambridge Brasserie. You’ll have amazing food, amazing service and most importantly, an amazing day out being you.
We were invited along in return for this feature but as always, all words and thoughts are my own.
