A breakfast date at Lussmanns | Hertfordshire

Katy, A Busy Mum's Guide To Days Out, Collaboration, Reviews Leave a Comment

If breakfast is the most important meal of the day, then Lussmanns is definitely the place to go to get yours!

If you haven’t been to a Lussmanns restaurant before then you are missing out! It has a great ethos of providing sustainable dining for all and you always come away feeling as though you’ve had a great meal.

We were invited along to try out the brand new breakfast menu and my goodness – it was all so good!

There is such a cool vibe to the place and the staff are so friendly. You’d think it was a family owned business rather than part of a chain – you really get a sense that you are being well looked after and in for a treat!

We went for the ‘we’ll have a bit of everything’ approach as we couldn’t choose. It is also just really nice to have a treat with friends, sharing and picking at the different dishes, instead of rushing a piece of toast (if you’re lucky) in the whirlwind that is mum life!

Here are a few of the dishes…

Smoked Haddock

Everything is so well presented – almost too pretty to eat… almost.

Shakshuka

This is a traditional middle eastern dish and completely delicious! It has an egg in the centre and is surrounded by tomatoes, onions, peppers and spices.

Mushrooms on Toast

A classic breakfast with a sourdough twist. It also has goats cheese coating each mushroom to give an extra dimension to the flavour.

Old School Ham and Eggs

I love a traditional breakfast and the fact that it came in this skillet pan made for such a fun dish. I want one so I can make it at home!

Crushed Avocado on Sourdough

Avocado is my guilty pleasure – I would eat 10 a day if I could! This dish had a real kick to it as it was served with chilli oil – great for blasting away any coughs and colds!

And of course, what is a breakfast date without my little boy. Wills was loving getting in on the action too…

Lussmanns use sourdough, which meant he could scoff away happily on his jam on toast without worry of an allergy flare-up. Win!

If you are in the Herts area and fancy a breakfast date with friends, I wholly recommend the Lussmanns breakfast menu. Head over to their website to find out more and to find your nearest restaurant.

We were invited along in return for a review. All thoughts and words are my own.

Find your nearest Happy Meal character visit at McDonald’s #ad

Juggling three kids means I don’t often get a chance to spend time one on one with them individually. It is something that plays on my mind quite a bit and so I always try to carve out a bit of time as and when I can.

So when McDonald’s asked whether Grace and I would like to come along for one of their character visits, I knew it would be right up her street.

This year McDonald’s are putting on character visit events for children at their restaurants, which involve a visit from the character from their current Happy Meal promotion! McDonald’s put on a special event with Super Mario for me and Grace- and Super Mario will be back visiting restaurants from the 16th of June to the 17th of July (the same period in which Super Mario toys will be found in Happy Meals).

Such a great idea and a fun day out for the family on those days when you might be stuck for ideas for something to do all together.

McDonald’s put on a special event for Grace and I and we met Super Mario at our local McDonald’s, a character that brings back so many memories of playing the game as a child! Fun fact – I once completed the whole game on my GameBoy! Life achievement right there!

We had our meal first, with Gracie choosing something new – something I haven’t noticed on the menu before actually – a chicken wrap.

She loved it – I think it will become her new meal of choice from now on!

I love that you get the option of a fruit bag or carrot sticks. So different from when I was a child and what I love even more is that children actively choose this option now. Sign of times changing, isn’t it?

Just as we were finishing off our meals, there was a friendly face peering through the window at us (it was Super Mario!). It was so lovely to hear all of the children so excited and the Happy Crew (the entertainers that play with the children and Super Mario) made sure everyone was involved in welcoming Mario into the restaurant.

First up was a meet and greet with a chance for photos. All of the children got a turn and posed with Mario for a good length of time – nobody likes to be rushed, do they?

They were all given certificates too – a really nice touch and something to remember the afternoon by.

They were also given stickers – really great considering this is a free event.

Next up were some games and a sing-song. All of the children were so excited and everyone wanted to get involved. The character visits are such a simple idea but one that makes a regular trip to McDonald’s a little bit more special.

The children were invited to come up for one of the games – Gracie had a little go at ‘Guess the animal’.

They then sprung a ‘get the parents involved’ activity on us and of course I ended up at the front! Mario looks less than impressed with my silly face, haha!

Gracie loved every second though, a really lovely way to spend the afternoon together.

The whole afternoon whizzed by (although it was an hour and a half in total), with fun and food to keep us busy. We are definitely going to go back for the next event to see what other characters will be making an appearance.

I made a little video of our afternoon so you can see and hear for yourself the fun that was had by everyone…

If you’d like to find out more, you can head over to the McDonald’s UK family events postcode finder to find your nearest participating branch. McDonald’s are putting on over 2,600 around the UK for the rest of the year, ranging from Family Fun Days to Character Visits, so keep an eye out and let me know how you get on!

Character Visits featuring Super Mario will run for 6 weeks, but events with other Characters will be taking place at different points throughout the Summer.

I’m working in a paid relationship with McDonald’s UK and BritMums highlighting the Family Events at McDonald’s restaurants around the UK.

And this is where you’ll find me…

Slowly but surely, our garden is finally taking shape. I mean I’m clearly not one to rush as I have been banging on about our garden makeover for a couple of years now! But I think this summer is going to be the summer that we truly get to enjoy the space.

The garden has always been a space for the children, with swings, slides and a trampoline to keep them busy. They’ve even got their own teepee at the back but we had nothing for us grown-ups!

I did treat myself to a nice patio set last year but there was something missing – a place to chill out while the kids play.

You have probably seen my new space over on Instagram Stories – so many people asked me about it! Isn’t it amazing? It is a Frampton Single Cocoon seat from Bramblecrest – such a cool looking piece!

Honestly, I don’t think I have ever loved a piece of furniture so much! (You know you’re a grown-up when you love furniture, don’t you?).

It is such a cosy space and actually, I rarely sit as poised as this – most of the time I am curled up inside reading a book.

It comes with these cushions and they are really comfy. The seat itself is made from an all-weather weave so I won’t have to worry about it during the winter months – just as well as there is absolutely no space left in my shed!

Apparently, we are due to have the hottest summer in 12 years – I will be enjoying every second out in the garden and this is exactly where you’ll find me!

If you have space, there is also a double seat option! Love it! Everything can be found on the Hayes Garden World website.

We were gifted this seat in return for a feature on my blog.

Everything you need for a wedding celebration with Amazon Handmade

Amazon sells pretty much everything (if not everything), doesn’t it? Whenever I need something, off I go to my Amazon app to find it. We have Prime too, so everything comes either that evening or the very next day – I love it!

I hadn’t realised that Amazon has a great department called Handmade. It invites people to sell their handmade crafts, getting their business noticed and us the chance to buy beautifully crafted products.

With the wedding season well and truly upon us, with the royal wedding this weekend too, of course, Amazon Handmade is the perfect place to get everything you need. Either for your own wedding or as a guest looking for unique gifts to give.

Along with most of the UK, we decided that a party was in order to celebrate the royal wedding. I love the fact that the country comes together for these occasions, don’t you?

Now, unfortunately, we are busy on the big day (we are at a family wedding actually) so we decided to throw the party early!

We were gifted a few pieces and first up was this gorgeous bunting – you can’t have a party without bunting, can you? This is from Cath Kidston – such a British icon!

I adore this crown headband. The girls love it too – we all need matching ones I think! It would make for a really cute addition to a bridesmaid outfit or perhaps a hen-do costume.

So cute, isn’t it? I need to find an excuse to wear it every day!

Everyone loves a glass of prosecco (or two) so a personalised prosecco glass would make for a great gift. It could be as shown here for a bride, or you could personalise with a name for bridesmaid gifts – that way nobody forgets which glass is theirs.

All weddings need confetti, so why not add a personalised touch and give out organza bags with the date on. I would have definitely used them at my own wedding! These are biodegradable rose petals too so great for the environment and look gorgeous!

Looking through the Wedding Shop, it really makes me wish I could have my wedding day all over again. I was the first to get married out of all of my friends and so now I have so many more ideas that would make the big day. I have actually been considering doing a vow renewal for a while now actually – so perhaps I can use all of my ideas then!

With all of our decorations in place, pretty dresses on, it was time to have a little picnic. and raise a glass to the happy couple. We will be watching the big day on catch-up on Sunday – I can’t wait!

Are you going to be watching it? Will you be celebrating with a party too?

The best detergent for sensitive skin | Neutral 0%

Katy Leave a Comment

The last few years have really opened my eyes to the number of allergies around. In fact, before having children I don’t think I was very aware at all!

Six years into motherhood and as a family we are living with seven different allergies and has meant adjusting certain things and getting into routines. For the most part, it is easy to cut out food groups and avoid certain materials, but something we have really struggled with is finding a detergent that doesn’t flare up eczema.

There’s nothing worse is there? You find a brand that promises to be kind to skin, yet you find yourself itching from head to toe the very next day. We’ve been there so many times and it always takes so long to undo the damage – washing everything again to remove any trace.

We’ve been trying out Neutral 0% for the past few weeks and I am so pleased to be able to tell you that it doesn’t cause any flare-ups at all!

Neutral 0% is completely fragrance and colourant-free, hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. It has also received the Allergy UK Seal of Approval which is brilliant for us allergy families, isn’t it?

I can now do my washing, knowing that the children won’t be itching in their clothes and that they will be able to sleep soundly without their bedding irritating them. A good night’s sleep is worth its weight in gold!

I always felt as though we were in the minority with all of our allergies but apparently 1 in 4 people in the UK suffer from allergies and this number is growing every year. With more products available with allergies in mind, we can get on with living life to the full without worry!

If you’re interested in trying the products, the Neutral 0% Washing Liquid and Fabric Conditioner are currently on promotion in Ocado and the range is also available from Sainsbury’s and Amazon. To find out more about Neutral 0% visit www.neutralsensitiveskin.com.

Even if you don’t suffer with allergies, it is best to have less fragrance and colourants in products, isn’t it?

So give it a go and let me know how you get on!

Finding confidence in front of the camera with NoLoGo-chic

Katy, Collaboration, The Busy Mum's Guide To Mama Style Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago I travelled down to Somerset for a weekend away with some other bloggers. It was a chance to reconnect with friends and take some time away for myself, to try and find myself again.

I have written about The Retreat and how it has helped me to find my focus again. There were so many brilliant sessions and one of the ones that pushed me out of my comfort zone was the photoshoot session with Derek Lomas.

We were all gifted some clothes from the very lovely Tina from NoLoGo-chic and Derek showed us how best to pose and how best to use lighting for the most flattering photo.

I am used to having either Mr F or Gracie taking photos of me but posing in front of other people was out of my comfort zone completely. But, I did what I always do and I faked it until I truly believed I was comfortable.

After a while I didn’t feel so nervous and we ended up with some lovely shots!

I just adore this dress! I love the soft material, I love the colour, the fit and the fact that it has pockets!

While the others in the group were having their photos taken, I got changed and asked the lovely Molly (Mother’s Always Right) to take few photos.

Such a great summer dress – I can’t wait to wear it on holiday in the summer. It is lightweight and despite being a maxi dress it is very flattering in the fit.

Tina has some gorgeous dresses on her site, my favourites being the jersey dresses – so flattering! I have had so many compliments when I have worn my spotty jersey dress – it is a staple for the school run now!

If you love colourful clothing, ethically sourced fabrics and a touch of luxury then head over NoLoGo-chic to see what else Tina has to offer.

Big thank you to Tina for the gorgeous dresses – I love them!

Elmer the Elephant comes to JoJo Maman Bebe

Katy 1 Comment

Elmer the Elephant is one of those iconic characters that everyone just adores, isn’t he? So mix him together with one of the nations favourite baby & toddler brands and you have a winner!

Today marks the launch of a brand new range to JoJo Maman Bebe and it is all gorgeous!

We were sent a few pieces to take a look at and as you’d expect, they are all the same fab quality that you’d expect from JoJo. The cotton is so soft, the colours are bright and well, you know I love stripes!

He has a few Elmer books and so this is a great addition to his collection. He loves that he matches his book too – such a cutie pie. There are lots of accessories in the range too so if you are a big Elmer fan like us you can grab the lot!

Such a cute look for summer, isn’t it?

One of my favourite pieces is this jacket. Stripes again of course, and I just adore the shade of blue – it really brings out Will’s eyes.

Like many of the JoJo jackets, it is reversible – so handy when they make a mess on one side but also just great to have different looks.

Doing his best model pose here – chocolate covered face included for free.

No range would be complete without pjs, would it?

Again, these are made from super soft cotton and are so snuggly for bedtime.

Elmer stripes anyone?

I think you’ll agree the whole range is fab – Wills certainly gives it his approval.

The range is up on the JoJo website now and will be coming to stores near you asap too. Go take a look at the other bits they have – all so cute as you can imagine.

We were sent these items in return for this feature. All words and thoughts are my own.
