Review: The DUALFIX i-SIZE from Britax Römer

Inside: Review of the Britax Römer DUALFIX iSIZE car seat

We have actually reviewed a DUALFIX before, the original back in 2016 when Wills was still a baby. Not that he isn’t still a baby – he’s just a 19 month old baby…

But, 2 years on and Britax Römer have updated the seat and somehow made a pretty brilliant seat even better. It has even won an award for its design – it is just so clever.

The DUALFIX is a very sturdy looking unit, which straight away makes you feel that you are placing your child in a safe seat, doesn’t it?

And of course you are! The DUALFIX iSIZE has a Pivot Link ISOFIX System. This ensures that your child is well protected in every accident, whether it is from the front, from the side or from the back.

It also has optimised side impact protection (SICT) inside, implemented by a special steel element inside the seat. You always know you are getting the highest standard from Britax Römer – especially as they have their own in-house crash test facility.

It is super easy to install with ISOFIX points and being iSIZE you know that it meets the current standard (ECE R129). It also has a height adjustable leg for extra support in the event of an emergency.

The seat has 12 recline positions, moving from a lie-flat position for newborns (with various padded inserts) to a sitting up position for older babies. I feel as though this one is much smoother and easier to manoeuvre, sliding through the positions with a lift of a handle.

While rear-facing, they can place their feet through the rebound bar. The bar is also adjustable so that it can fit the exact recline of your seat. Extra details like this means a better fit and a safer fit.

The thing I really love about the DUALFIX is the fact that you can swivel the seat on the base a whole 360 degrees. This means that you can switch from rear facing to forward facing easily but also means you can swivel them to face you when strapping them in.

Isn’t that ingenious?

Again, I think this mechanism has been perfected and is a much smoother action compared to the previous model. Just press in the button and turn it to whichever position you require. Then simply wait for the click to know you are back into a safe position again.

Of course Wills isn’t ready for forward facing yet, although I will admit the girls were in forward facing seats long before. I never knew the dangers of moving them too soon but I do now and can tell you that Wills will be staying rear facing as long as possible!

Once he is ready, the seat can swivel around and once again recline to different positions – very handy for naps!

Whichever way he is facing he will be in a 5 point harness and I have to say, the Britax style harness is my favourite. The crotch strap never gets stuck underneath as some seem to do and it is just really easy to click together.

The chest pads are also really great as they have introduced a neoprene layer underneath, which helps to reduce movement – perfect for wriggly children!

The DUALFIX has had a bit of a visual makeover but has also had some great features added to the original style. I love that there are now added safety measures and the fact that being iSIZE you know it will fit any iSIZE approved seats.

It is easy to install, easy to use and with a quick-remove cover it is easy to keep clean too!

To take a look on the Britax Römer website to find out more and check that it will fit in your car using their handy fit finder tool!

We were sent this seat in return for an honest review. All words and thoughts are my own as always.
