Real Mums – Mummy On My Mind

This feature is all about celebrating real mums. Mums are amazing and come in all shapes and sizes but sometimes we can feel alone, we can feel as though we are the only ones struggling to keep on top of things. I want to lift the lid on motherhood so we can all feel part of a sisterhood, to feel proud about our own achievements and know that we are doing the best we can!

Without further a do let me hand over to Zeyna!

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

Hi! I’m Zeyna and I am a family and lifestyle blogger over at Mummy On My Mind. I am happily married to Mr Z, and we have an adorable one year old boy, Baby Z. I am a stay at home mummy and British expat, living in Sunny Dubai, and loving every second of it!

Describe a typical day in your life

A typical day in my life entails finding all sorts of crazy ways to entertain Baby Z, whilst getting house chores and blogging done too!

What is the best thing about being a mum?

It has to be the cuddles with Baby Z and watching his face light up when he learns to do something new!

What have you found hardest about motherhood?

Initially for me, breastfeeding was quite a challenge. There were plenty of tears, but thankfully it got easier. Also, another challenging part of motherhood is knowing when to give yourself some time off! Even superwomen need a mini tea break once in a while!

How has your body changed?

I have a few strecthmarks under my belly button, which are quite faint now, but I am proud of those battle scars nonetheless. I have thankfully returned to my pre-pregnancy weight, and enjoying being back in my favourite jeans once more!

Do you wear makeup? If so what does your routine look like?

On weekdays it’s just a bit of moisturiser and lipgloss thrown on quickly and haphazardly. During weekends, it’s time to treat myself so I go full out and apply foundation, blusher, plenty of mascara and bright lipstick.

What’s in your handbag?

My wallet with all my cards and cash, a pot of Vaseline and a hand fan (for the Dubai Summer heat!), along with any other junk that Baby Z has stuffed inside my purse which could range from toys to restaurant leaflets.

What is your relationship with housework?

I have to admit, I have a slight OCD with wanting things to be clean, tidy and organised. I can’t really rest until I know that everything is where it ought to be!

How do you relax?

I enjoy reading blogs and munching on chocolate to de-stress. Chocolate solves everything, doesn’t it? Also, just lying down whilst Baby Z naps is a heavenly feeling in itself!

What’s the best parenting advice you have ever been given?

“Don’t buy too many clothes in the first few months for your new born. They will grow out of them so quickly!” It really is alarming how quickly they grow, and I may have shed a tear or two when I had to give a few outfits to charity that were never even worn by Baby Z!

For any new mums out there, what would you like to tell them?

Sleep as much as you can, when you can! I know it’s not always possible to sleep when baby naps since there’s ten billion things to done, but sometimes it is totally acceptable and needed. Also, as I am sure you have heard before, cherish every moment and take lots of pictures because they really do grow up far too quickly!

What makes you happy?

When it is daddy’s turn to change Baby Z’s nappy. Bliss!

And finally, complete this sentence:

I am a great mum because….. I have managed to keep Baby Z alive so far! Hehe! And also because I have loved my baby boy unconditionally and been there to watch him grow, not missing a single milestone.

I actually laughed out loud at your happiest thing and that totally makes my day when it is not my turn haha!! You are so right about taking photos, that would be advice too- and videos!! x
